But you could still get around the 30% rule with an adequately lengthy contract, perhaps 6-8 years, allowing you to grow base salaries and include unguaranteed option bonuses in the out years. Perhaps the base salary in 2009 would have to be $1.5 million in order to keep with 30%, but I can't see it needing to be much higher than that. The absolute max cap hit for Hall would be $5.0 million, and I think closer to $4.0 is realistic given the 'Skins' ability to restructure/extend their other guys.

you seriously think a player is going to be under contract for 6-8 years just for cap purposes? 5 years means he's free at 30, instead of 32-33 (BIG difference). i think contracts over 6 years were made illegal too, but i'm not sure. I just really don't see him or his agent bending over backwards to help the skins after taking this long to get a deal done. Not to mention adding huge salaries on the end of a deal for ego is worthless to most players, since they want to actually get paid, and backloading our deal just makes our offer less competitive.

I think 5mill is more realistic, unless that option bonus is like, 20mill or something stupid.
