Re: Dockery coming back to Redskins
Apparently, Dock passed up more money in Detroit to come back here:
"The Redskins called and tried to bring him back. The Lions offered him a richer contract to stay, but Dockery decided he couldn't pass up the chance to return to the Redskins." Former Bills offensive lineman Derrick Dockery agrees to five-year, $26.5 million deal - ESPN

Re: Dockery coming back to Redskins
Let's compare the 2 contracts:
March 2007 (Bills): "The total contract equals the deal that "transition" free agent Steve Hutchinson signed with the Minnesota Vikings last year, a league record for a guard. The contract includes $18.5 million in guarantees and will pay Dockery $23 million in the first three seasons." February 2009 (Skins): "Washington’s wheeling and dealing did not end early Friday; it went into the night. The Redskins reached agreement with former Bills guard Derrick Dockery on a five-year, $26 million deal that includes $8.2 in guaranteed money. Combined with the $18.5 million in guaranteed money Dockery made from his two years with the Bills, he will have made nearly $27 million guaranteed in three years." Seems like a good deal for the Skins on a relative basis. But Dock's the big winner. Looks like him and his agent have found the way to milk the system: Big money upfront, play two mediocre seasons so you are not worth your contract, get released, sign with another team for more big money upfront.... |

Re: Dockery coming back to Redskins
I welcome him back with open arms. He still has to perform though. I mean, with all the festivities going I want to know if his level of play has dropped off.
I get all the fuzzy worm feelings about Dock but him coming back isn't as exciting as getting AH. Also, you don't get credit for not wanting to play in Detroit. More money for more misery? Who wouldn't jump at such a deal?

it's gotta be hard to pass up more money, though we're probably only looking at a bit more money that they offered didn't know he'd still be worth potentially over 5 a year, but I like the signing |
