If it's true that Evans signed with SF, then this the kind of shit that makes me say that the Giants FO is better than ours. Why the **** didn't we sign him earlier?

Well think about it. We bring in AH to get up the middle to help out the ends. Then we cut JT and don't sign Evans. Brilliant

Yeah, brilliant bring back a 36 yo end in Daniels. I hope Jackson, Buzbee, Wilson come up big. This smells like Orakpo being drafted.

I hope that is the case; they have been on the roster list for a while and they never even had a chance to show off what they can do, except for Wilson.. It's time for us to give them a chance.. That is unless if we decide to go after a DE in free agency..

I don't think I like the idea of drafting a DE at #13, right when we need a RT most..

Yes I think you're right. As far as Daniels goes, we are crazy to bring him back. I love him but it's time to go.

If the Vinny and the FO is betting/hoping/praying Orakpo falls all the way to 13 I think they've gone full retard. I doubt he falls beyond 8th overall.

Orakpo will most likely be gone by the time we pick.

I think the more frustrating aspect is that we'll never really get any idea what the strategy or thinking was. Like others have said on here we haven't heard the FO talk about any FA DE so the two likelihoods are 1) we grab Daniels on the cheap and try to get through the season w/ him our underwhelming backups or 2) we use a draft pick to get a starter and it would probably have to be our first pick of the draft 13 or maybe 20 in a trade scenario, which means we're passing on starters for OT and LB.

For the same reason the Giants weren't interested in him?

Olshansky isn't good, and I'm guessing he's looking for multiple years plus guaranteed cash. No reason to chase for him, in my opinion.

I'd look to add any older guy who will take a two year contract with less than 30% guaranteed. Look at Kevin Carter, Bertrand Berry, Paul Spicer, Marques Douglas, or Anthony Weaver.

Or Daniels at the vet min for a single year is fine.

Wasn't he a high draft pick and a starter on a pretty good SD defense for the last few years?? I know he played end in a 3-4 but if he's out there we should take a look at him. I'd be willing to say he's way better than any of our current options.

He was a second rounder in 2005. He did enjoy a good season in 2006, but he's been hurt, and SD never made a half-ass effort to retain him.

He's young, but does not appear to be explosive enough to be worth a lot of guaranteed money.

For a short two-year "show me" deal, we could absolutely do worse though.

Re: Update: Evans Signs with Niners

I'm telling y'all this was intentional. They know what they want to do. This wasn't a f-up by the FO.

Like I said earlier this means they'll probably fo after Orakpo if he falls to us. You guys want a youth movement? Well. . . . Orakpo would be that.

Daniels would be a back up along with Buzbee. That gives us one year with a stub DE, an undrafted guy, and Daniels for one more year or two as a back up. Seems to me like that's that until next year's draft and FA.

If Blanche wanted Evans then we'd have him. They tendered the guys they want, at least for a price.
