Ovechkin to Miss Thursday's Game
Left wing is day-to-day with injured foot

Washington left wing Alex Ovechkin will miss tonight’s game between the Capitals and the Toronto Maple Leafs. Ovechkin is day-to-day with a foot injury incurred at Wednesday’s practice at the Kettler Capitals Iceplex.

Ovechkin, now in his fourth NHL season, missed two games earlier this season when he returned to his native Russia to visit with his ailing grandfather. Tonight’s game marks just the second game in the 23-year-old’s NHL career that he has missed because of injury. Ovechkin sat out a game between the Capitals and the Islanders on Long Island on Jan. 30, 2006.

Washington lost that game against New York a bit more than three years ago, and it was 1-1 in the two games Ovechkin missed earlier this season.
