Rogers simply isn't making enough to save money when extending him.

If he got a Hall-type deal, it would raise his 2009 cap number by 1.0-1.5 million.

Cutting Moss would be more of a football decision, based on what he is/isn't needed for. He'll be here until a better option comes along. He won't be here as long as Randle El will be.

I thought that the Randle-El/Carter restructurings essentially turned their deals into one year contracts. Meaning they would be gone after this year if they don't produce.

If the FO keeps Randle-El (a never been and never will be) and drops Moss, they might as well hire Al Davis to run the team.

That's correct essentially, but there is a cost to releasing them none the less. Basically, if there's a cap next year, we can afford to let one, maybe two guys walk.

The thing was, if we really weren't considering keeping them, the cheapest way to separate from the contract would have been to not restructure at all, i.e. what we did with Moss. Randle El and Carter and Samuels...I expect them to pick up the options on all of them. If I had to guess one guy who is least likely to be here in 2010, I say Carter, if only because Orakpo should have his role in the defense by then.

I think you are right about Carter being a big if in 2011. That being said, purely from a football standpoint I think that the team would be better served keeping him over R-El. But a $7.25 option bonus is pretty steep to keep Carter around.

2010 better be uncapped or we are SCREWED. The defense will be Haynesworth, hall, orakpo and the draft picks. Although Brennan and Chase Daniels may be the Qbs! ha ha ha

That's like saying I don't beat my kids so I'm a good person. You don't get credit for that. I mean we should have most picks every year. Good teams realize this. Just b/c we have all or most of them once or twice in a six or seven year span doesn't make it smart.

Also, we tried to give away some for Cutler and trade away some for Sanchez.

Well our FO doesn't get any credit by the sports media or the fans when they do something good. So at least this is a start.

Do I wish that our FO would emulate some of the FO of successful teams? Yes. But I am not going to praise other FOs by mindlessly bashing our team's FO.

Last time I check, teams like Oakland and Detroit also have had a lot of their picks, yet they wish they had a record like ours in the past 5 years.
