Re: Mark Sanchez at 13th?
Peter King's MMQB leads with the notion that Snyder is determined to get Sanchez. Mark Sanchez, Daniel Snyder, Scott Pioli pivotal in NFL Draft - Peter King - SI.com
I still assert that if Cutler never became available and Snyder's appetite for a shiny new QB wasn't whetted then we'd not be having this discussion. The one positive in the article is that a source near Snyder says he won't allow next year's #1 pick included in any trade but come Saturday, we'll see what happens. Quote:

Re: Mark Sanchez at 13th?
Sanchez gettin his Veal on....
Redskins Insider - Your daily source for news and commentary on the Washington Redskins, by Jason La Canfora Mark Sanchez Loves Him Some Veal Chops There have been times on this beat when I've felt as if I was writing for Page Six of the New York Post, but never more than now. As we reported last week, USC quarterback Mark Sanchez, a player Redskins owner Daniel Snyder covets in the upcoming draft, had an official visit with the Redskins on Friday and Saturday. And, courtesy of the public relations staff of a local hotspot, we now are aware of more details about the activities of Sanchez and Redskins officials Friday night than we probably really needed to know, This was Sanchez's last official visit with any team - though he is slated to work out for the Broncos on Tuesday - and the Redskins could trade up to select him. I'll let the PR staff for Il Mulino New York take over from here. This comes from their press release about Sanchez's dinner there: "Friday night, guests at DC's hot spot IL MULINO NEW YORK on Vermont Ave. were in awe to see USC Quarterback Mark Sanchez, Redskins Owner Dan Snyder, Executive VP Vinny Cerrato, Head Coach Jim Zorn, and the Skins QB Coach. They began their evening by first enjoying some drinks outside on the patio, then all ventured inside to dine. With the NFL DRAFT upon us, they held their secret meeting in the Private Room in the back of the restaurant. The 6'3", 225 lb. Trojan from Mission Viejo, CA dined on a PASTA TRIO and a 16oz VEAL CHOP. He definitely cleaned his plate!!" Two exclamation points and liberal use of all caps? What enthusiasm!! Anyway, if you are among what appears to be a minority of fans who hope the Skins trade up to get Sanchez, I suppose you're hoping that veal was cooked to perfection. And for those wondering, Sanchez is 22, so it's perfectly cool if he was drinking something other than a Shirley Temple.

Re: Mark Sanchez at 13th?
I wonder if all the other potential 1st rounders who visit the team are treated that way by the FO. Somehow I doubt it.
I'd like to yell at Dan Snyder.

Re: Mark Sanchez at 13th?
1. If Snyder really wants Sanchez, he trades up with the Chiefs. I wouldn't be surprised if it wasn't one of Scott Pioli's people who were the inside sources telling McShay that the Seahawks wanted Sanchez (thereby making the Chiefs #3 pick the route to Sanchez, not the Jags #8 pick). Pioli:
A. was the co-architect of the Patriots, who always traded down and accumulated picks, B. knows that when the Danny sees something shiny, he'll do everything in his power to get it. And that means this year's number 1, next year's number 1, and possibly next year's #3. 2. This is pure speculation, but I wonder if Snyder sees enormous marketing potential in having the first Hispanic superstar in the NFL. I'm not sure what the demographics are on hispanic football following, but not only is there a large Hispanic population here in the Washington area, the possibility of selling Sanchez Redskins jerseys in southern California where there is no team, where Sanchez went to college, and where there are of course millions of first and second generation Hispanics new to american football in an area without a football team... I mean, again, I'm just spit-balling here, but yeah, you've gotta think that the first Hispanic Franchise QB is going to be a goldmine. And you've gotta think Snyder knows this. I mean, he's taking the guy out to eat... this thing's getting done... utterly ridiculous. |

Re: Mark Sanchez at 13th?
Why does a player's race or ethnic group make a difference? I thought MLK said that we shouldn't judge a person by the color of their skin but by their ability or character, or something along those lines. Who gives a damn? Put the grape ape out there and let him play. We haven't had a purple player yet.
Drafting a QB with an O-line like ours makes no sense what-so-ever! With that said, I know that DS will insist that we draft him. Welcome to the team Sanchez. Take a good look at FedEx field. If your patient, you'll have your head buried in it just like every other Washington QB. Aren't you lucky! |

Re: Mark Sanchez at 13th?
Drafting a QB is the worst. It will be two years from now before we ever know if this was a bust. It seems like in the past ten years (not counting Flacco and Ryan) 1st round QB's have busted. It is all "hype" go back to Alex Smith, Joey Harrington, J. Russell, etc...everyone of those guys where just going to be awesome according to the pre-draft hype and now look at them, JC has them all beat.

Re: Mark Sanchez at 13th?
I am against trading up...but if they trade up for a player other then a QB I will be even more upset. They can fill a position of need by staying right at #13 which i hope they do. The ONLY reason to part with future draft picks in a trade-up is if they have identified Sanchez as a franchise QB.

Re: Mark Sanchez at 13th?
I just don't like the idea of drafting Sanchez, period. It's going to create a season long distraction. From the moment camp opens we'll be hearing about when is Sanchez going to get his chance... the first bad game JC has the Sanchez talk will heat up. Hell even if JC is playing well people will want to talk about what the long term plans are for Sanchez. Until he gets on the field, it will be a major talking point.
Nobody loves a QB controversy quite like DC and we'll have yet another epic one on our hands. I just don't like it. |
