could just mean that somebody in that organization had something different in mind

I can hardly fault a guy for making those decisions, doubt many people could do much better.. you never know what's going on in the FO's of a team, if they're gonna draft for need or BPA or what, it's not the science that some people make it out to be, he's gotta mock it and of course he won't get it all right

Actually Kiper gets paid to talk to those FO folks and have some idea about what they have in mind. Otherwise ESPN is wasting the money that they pay him. Put differently, why should we read his mock drafts if he doesn't know any more than we do?

We won more with Vinny

That is the great mock draft conundrum, is it not?

Kiper's been at it for 25 plus years, so he knows what he's talking about, but it's important to point out that his mock's don't get historically more accurate with time. He's not working with insider information. He's working off his own player grades, and his personal interpretation of team behavior, which means that he has to take into account what he believes is and is not a smokescreen.

We do know that Vinny heavily values his input on draft grades. But there's no reason to believe that he got Vinny to cough up our draft strategy in exchange. That would be pretty criminal, and thusly, unlikely to have occurred.

If every team made their draft board public, Mock Drafts would be very easy and informative. The rampant speculation around this time of year tends to drain their value. You can mock a fantasy football draft with 300% more accuracy than you can hit the NFL draft.

There's reason to think we're interested in Sanchez, but not a lot of reason to trade up for him. If we were just going to take best available quarterback at No. 13, there would have been no reason to have the closed door meeting with Campbell.

I mostly agree with you.

But this Warpath conversation got started when Kiper was quoted in a previous post as saying that Vinny had a draft trick up his sleeve and thus Kiper predicted a trade up to take Sanchez. This would represent a claim by Kiper to have insider information about our draft strategy.

To me, Kiper has been flat wrong too many times in similar "insider information" claims that he has made. Therefore, for reasons you mentioned, I am inclined to disbelieve the trade-up-for-Sanchez claim which he made. I pray that I am correct in my disbelief but won't know for sure until the 25th.
