I agree, Madden's style became antiquated with our generation, and he did not have the effect that he had on the generation before us. While I can appreciate his legendary status, I think his inability to conform to the times did him in. Collinsworth will be OK, I guess, but I was looking for a much flashier signing, like Prime Time. |

I think the hate towards CC comes from how he comes off a little pompous, he's the anti-Madden. And I honestly don't see where he's that knowledgeable or where he brings anything groundbreaking to the broadcast booth. I'm sure he'll be alright, I don't watch the games for who's in the booth, but given a choice I'd rather have Madden. |

Re: John Madden retires
The guy cracks me up; sure he's gotten older and isn't what he used to be, but all sports have had this. Though many people say he's lost it and only says obvious things, there were always a few games a year I'd catch when he explained something very well and I'd learn a bit more about the game of football. He's one of the people I'd like to sit back with a beer and listen to his stories. Hope he enjoys his retirement.

Re: John Madden retires
i cant see the old man coming back for the grind of a long season. plus, the N.F.L is totally different from when he coached.

Re: John Madden retires
I don't think it would be in coaching. Maybe a front office position?
And good morning D. Raining up your way? |

Re: John Madden retires
I think he's already ruled out taking on any sort of front office position.
