Re: Reasons for drafting Sanchez

Sanchez isn't very good, but he's improved over the guy he was earlier in the season, and most importantly, he's in the right place at the right time.

he's better than most rookie QBs and far superior to ANY of the QBs available in this year's draft. That said, i'm very happy with Orakpo.

Doubt he'll be any better than either Clausen or Bradford, and I'm not predicting historic success for either of those guys.

While were at it, I doubt he'll be quite what Flacco, Henne, and Ryan were in 2008 (though Brian Brohm looks to be an epic overdraft at this point), and I doubt he'll turn out better than Kolb, Quinn, or Edwards from 2007.

There's just certain things a quarterback needs to do to have any sort of trust from his coordinator. Sanchez, at this point in his career, cannot do those things and I would be stunned if he turned out to ever amount to anything in this league.

With that said, it's hard to quantify what the playoff experience he is getting now will do for his long-term development. Enough to overcome his inability to throw under pressure? Doubt it. But the Jets have risked it all (and I mean a likely SB title) with Sanchez this year, so maybe they'll get something for their trouble.

That offensive line makes the difference. Why do people think the QB is the only problem in Washington?

Funny how they keep comparing Sanchez to Joe Namath. Is this what you really want? I know that I don't.

Joe Namath

Re: Reasons for drafting Sanchez

Sooooo...does anyone have a problem w/ drafting the top LT and RT w/ our 1st and 2nd picks, respectively?

I was thinking G/C in the 4th, or possibly a RB

No because apparently we HAVE to draft the QB with the twice injured shoulder.

Oh yes thanks for the reminder LOL.

I think Shanny knows how to draft offensive players, and he knows it's impossible to have any success w/o a dominant Oline. I would guess we bring in at least 2 new starters on the oline, probably through the draft but who knows maybe a FA is on the way. Could be 3 guys even. I'm thinking 2 tackles and at least one interior guy, probably a legit center.

Re: Reasons for drafting Sanchez

Clearly the Jets are winning in spite of Sanchez and not because of him. I will say though, he's an emotional leader and you can tell the players respect him a ton. I think Rex is doing a good job of keeping him in his lane until the game slows down for him more.

Yeah I agree with this. I did not want us to draft him, but I will give him some props. Rookie QB, 2 road playoffs wins under his belt...Im impressed...I mean that is not easy and he handled the pressure of expectations of the NY media as well. The guy is not playing at a high level, but he has been set up to succeed and has gained the type of experience you want a young QB to go through.

Re: Reasons for drafting Sanchez

Rex Ryan has done a great job. The credit should go to him and whoever acquired these o-linemen. That's how you build a team. Good job.
