Let's go back to where this discussion started: Portis is, hands-down, the best blocking back in football. I don't say that as a homer, I say that because it is true. How about if you admit your mistake and move on?

Oh and I guess I made a mistake considering he has 2 seasons under his belt.

Re: Undrafted Rookies Signed
Betts is on the wrong side of 30, and not the surest of ball carriers. Rock is a solid KR and ST captain. I like the guy alot but he has shown himself to be ineffective in the rushing game. I'm not trying to step on anybody's toes here just suggesting that the team needs to have a capable backup to Portis in order to reduce the every day wear and tear on CP, and God forbid, shoulder the load if CP were to go down hurt. PS I'm not suggesting that Portis' replacement is out there somewhere in free agency right now, just simply saying Mason looked very hungry last year, why not bring him for camp...

Re: Undrafted Rookies Signed
I don't know Mason had 4.8 yrds rushing avg in preseason and 7.0 passing yrds avg.
I thought he did better then Rock as a RB. Rock reminds me of the TTB. Two steps forward and 5 back. |

Re: Undrafted Rookies Signed
I have no problem bringing him back to be a camp body, but to think he would have a realistic chance at beating out Betts or Rock is a pipe dream.

Fair enough. I do realize the odds of Mason usurping Betts or Rock are very long. At the very least I would like for him or any of the other FA RBs pushing these guys for their jobs. I want Betts and Rock to solidly beat them out for their jobs, So in my little corner of Redskins universe I will believe we have the best person available for that position on the team.

Re: Undrafted Rookies Signed
Completely understood. I think what we are trying to say though is we could do better then Betts and Rock. Maybe it's not Mason. Fine. But we could do a hell of a lot better then Betts and Rock.

We could certainly do a lot worse than Betts and Rock. I'll never get why some are so intent on pushing these guys out. |

Betts and Rock are pretty typical back-ups. I don't think either would be a starter anywhere else (maybe Betts on a team with no RB's). Sure there's probably 3 or 4 teams with a significantly better stable - but that would be the exception not the rule. Also, who would we cut to keep a "developmental" RB? On this team, the RB's are the least of my concerns. It's a stable position with a good/very good starter and good/competent back-ups.

Re: Undrafted Rookies Signed
Rock had 7.4 yrds rushing yrds avg against and 4.0 passing yrds avg. against second stringers. Numbers are similar.

Re: Undrafted Rookies Signed
I thought I saw that the kid, Brown I think, from Wyoming went undrafted. He sounded like a good guy to grab. Kiper liked him as a 3rd down back/returner.
Don't hate on Betts & Rock. Both are solid. I know Betts has his fumbling issues, but he still deserves more carries. Rock is vital to spec. teams & contrary to what's been posted here, he does a good job on kick returns. He always gets what he can getting north -south w/out trying to dance his way, he just lacks breakaway speed. |
