It may be a pretty good deal to buy your own phone outright and swap the sim card. (you would have to see if the I-phone is that simple, I do not know) That way, if they piss you off, or your heart wanders to another suitor......you can go anytime......
I'm thinking about buying a new phone myself, but cannot decide? Alas...

Iphones have sim cards in them. When I initially got mine I was under the impression they did not. While I was at the store they took my old sim card out of my razor, replaced it with a new 3G sim card and transferred all my contacts to it. Right now the only way to use an Iphone on another carrier is by buying an "jailbroken" or unlocked one. If I were you I'd find one on either Craigslist or Ebay and put my sim card in it.
