I thought players often sign one day contracts for this reason though. For instance Art Monk came back and signed on as a Redskin and than retired shortly therafter so he could retire a Redskin.

He can just sign a one day contract if he wants to do that. He doesn't need to play for a year with them to do that.

Yeah, I kinda forgot about that. But just because I'm not willing to be proven wrong, perhaps he wants to actually play his final year with the Dolphins.
