Jerry Gray Talks Coaching Cornerbacks...

"I think Fred Smoot is doing an excellent job, technique-wise, getting back to where he was when he was drafted out of Mississippi State." "Another guy I think is going to surprise a lot of people is going to be Justin Tryon. I'm gonna tell you, he is going to be really, really good in this league. And I think he's going to be good for a long time." I love to hear stuff like this.

Loyal readers of the Warpath knew a few months ago that Tryon is someone that was impressing the coaches, though it didn't show clearly to the fans

It's easy to crush guys when they make rookie mistakes and then write them off for good. But it just takes one look around the league and you see how many guys took a few years to develop, and once they did they became very good players.

Hopefully Tryon and the rest of that draft class develops into something - let's give them a chance.

Yeah my buddy who works at Redskins Park said Tryon is by far the best physical specimen of all the CBs. That's part of the reason I suggested last year that we try him on punt returns (anything beats ARE's sideline to sideline dance routine). Obviously Tryon was lacking in technique and experience, but I think we'll see some big strides from him this year. I sure hope so anyway.

Indeed, it's not like he was a top 10 pick, he's gonna take a bit more coaching and learning.
