Kudos to the FO for pulling a ballsy move on an area of need. This guy could have gone on the 2nd round during next years draft, there's no difference getting him now than next year, he will have one more year of experience by 2010. This guy has the build of a Dexter Manley/Charles Mann (slightly shorter) and could be an impact player down the road.

Re: Redskins Select Jarmon in 3rd Round of Supplemental Draft

So in the last 7 drafts, we've had 3 third round draft picks:

2003 Derrick Dockery
2004 Chris Cooley
2008 Chad Rhinehart

If Rhinehart works out, I guess Jarmon has got big shoes to fill. Hope he lives up to it.

Re: Redskins Select Jarmon in 3rd Round of Supplemental Draft

So we traded our 1st in 2008, our 2nd in 2009, and our 3rd in 2010. Who are we getting for the 4th in 2011?

I am neutral about the pick, I like it just as much as I don't like it. I think it was a lot based on the pressure for Zorn and Vinny to get it done this year, which is what bothers me the most. I really want to know what other people offered. I know teams don't want to say what they did because then they can get judged for it, but I hope it somehow leaks out.

Detroit and some other teams were going to try to get him with a 4th. If we wouldn't have given a 3rd, we wouldn't have got him.

yeah thats what i heard too. if we had bid our 4th rounder then a team like detroit would have gotten him first with their lower 4th rounder.

heard vinny lay down how the order goes. it does not follow the regular draft order. he said all the 6-10 teams (example) get put in a lottery, then all the non-playoff teams get put a lottery, then the playoff teams get put in the lottery.

so for this supplemental draft while we drafted 13th in the reg draft we drafted 19th in the supplemental. cowboys who drafted after us (i think the 19th?) in the regular draft actually "drafted" 13th in the supplemental for each round.

go skins!!

How did we trade our 3rd in 2010? Isn't the player who that pick was used for going to be on the roster in 2010? We used the pick 9 months early, that's all. I'm not getting how anyone is upset that we used our pick for a player that's going to be on our team?!?

Good point. This reminds me how some ppl (I think I saw this on ESPN) are saying that "Snyder gave away a pick". Um, hello, we drafted someone.

My bad, I meant it in that we won't be drafting in the third come draft day. We did the same thing for Jason Taylor. We traded the 2nd round pick 9 months early for Jason Taylor and he was on the roster in 2008. He was just older and hopefully not as good a LDE as Jarmon will be. I'm neutral about it, but other people are upset at the value, they don't know if he was worth using a third round pick on.

I didn't WANT to use a third pick on him, but we wouldn't have got him otherwise. We'll just have to wait and see how it goes. This, potentially, could turn out to be a great move. I'm willing to give it the benefit of the doubt personally. If he can eventually replace Daniels, I'd say the FO did a good job. A really good job.

But it's not the same at all. If we trade the pick for a player, then another team gets an additional player with our pick. We get a player with our own pick, we just get him 9 months early. It's like Ruhskins said, so many people and fans are conditioned to think that we 'gave up a pick' that anything we do outside of the month of April is a negative.

If the Eagles picked him (and they supposedly put in a 4th round claim) then there would be endless platitudes about how savvy Joe Banner and Andy Reid are for using the supplemental draft and adding a potentially valuable player, not that they threw away a pick.

Funny how everyone put in a 4th round claim except us. Doesn't it make you wonder if maybe we over valued him a little bit. Yes we won, we got our man, but whether or not it was worth it is yet to be seen. The talent pool in a draft between the 3rd and 4th rounds are almost night and day with a few exceptions.

On the ESPN boards a Pats fan gave kudos to the Redskins for picking Jarmon and how he wishes the Pats had picked him. Can you imagine if this had happened? There would have been an orgy of sports talking heads stepping over each other to praise Darth Hoody. And in here there would have been a ton of posts about how the Pats FO always does everything right and how they wish Darth Hoody was running this team.

This whole thing started because I mixed my words so it doesn't really matter, but I think it doesn't matter what the other team gets, I don't care about the Dolphins, all that matters to me is the Redskins. From a Redskin-centric viewpoint.
July 2008 - Get Jason Taylor
April 2009 - No 2nd round draft pick
July 2009 - Get Jeremy Jarmon
April 2010 - No 3rd round pick

All of that's irrelevant though, it all comes down to whether you think the guy is worth a 3rd round pick. I think the value is comparable. I would've been happy if he had fell to the 4th round. I wonder if Jarmon will get paid comparable to Kevin Barnes. You would have to think it would be less since he's supplemental, but there would be a slight increase in pay next year for 3rd round picks.
