I'll say this about Smoot, the guy gives his all and plays hurt. His better days might be behind him, but he can still be a quality #3 or #4 corner.

My thoughts exactly! The pass rush has always been bad for our DB's, hopefully this year is the turning point.

That is what I thought but apparently Torrence, Barnes, Tryon, and Ade Jimoh are head and shoulders above him. In fact he shouldn't even be in the league...

I forgot Doug Dutch and Byron Westbrook as well. Literally laughing out loud...

Agreed.. and with the rush that we may have he might start to look like a solid 3

So, your saying that you think Smoot will make the team?

Re: Smoot tried to decapitate DJ hackett

Everyone needs to just chill on the secondary. They are an above average group, smoot included. They would be great as a whole, if they forced more turnovers, but there's potential in the young ones - barnes and tryon. Barnes has great potential as a rookie. And from the early reports, Tryon seems to be coming on in his second year.

I think it's already been documented that there are a few weaknesses in everyone's game with all of the dbs, but overall they are above average group with the potential to be great.

Don't worry about the secondary or anyone on defense for that matter. The redskins are stacked from top to bottom on defense. I think this is just misplaced negativity.

Misplaced negativity? Smoot just isn't good anymore. Hard to debate that. I think that's what a few us here are pointing out.

I like the dude, but he can't cover his eyes. That said, I really like our secondary, even if Smoot is the nickel. Our top two corners are top notch, and I love our safety mix.

That's all I'm saying - I like our secondary, even with Smoot at the nickel. Even with his inconsistency, I like his veteran instincts and every now and then he makes a big play.

I worded that wrong. I like our secondary DESPITE the fact that Smoot is our nickel. Hopefully Rogers/Hall and our solid rotation of safeties can overcome Smoot's deficiencies.

As a nickle corner, he isn't that bad and there's a chance he'll make a play. He's inconsistent, but he is more often than not - covering well. Not tight, but solid enough that someone that he is assigned to doesn't get close to being wide open. And like I said already - there's a chance that he could even make a play on the ball in the air or make the play in run support. That's all I can ask out of a nickle corner.

But I have a feeling that this is something that you and I will continue to disagree on.

Re: Smoot tried to decapitate DJ hackett

I've always liked Smoot's personality and clubhouse antics, but he is definately not a premier corner in this league. He will make the team though, but I doubt he will be that big of a contribution.

also, if you guys could rally up and vote for my dog I know it's kind of lame but my wife is trying to get me to help. It doesn't take long.

Thanks Redskins Nation
