Re: What has Obama done well?

We have to scratch off the cash for clunkers as something Obama has done well.
CASH FOR CLUNKERS NOT PAYING DEALERS

Think this is the same goverment that some people want to handle our health care and they cannot even get this right.

I also read somewhere that it's done more for foreign automakers than domestic.

Sorry, a delay past the 10 days to wait to get reimbursed isn't the end of the world. I would rather they get it after 30 days, and we make sure there isn't any fraud going on.

It still seemed like an effective program, and I would not "scratch it off the list".

It is not all the Govt's fault

How to Avoid the 'Cash for Clunkers' Snarl - Yahoo! News

Quote:
NHTSA also has to make sure nobody's claiming that a rusty tricycle constitutes a clunker worth $4,500 toward a new ride. Don't get me wrong, I'm not suggesting that anybody would ever attempt to take advantage of wanton congressional spending and defraud the U.S. government. But do we trust car dealers and their customers enough to go by the honor system? Many of the rejected clunker claims are being sent back to dealers because of paperwork snafus like unsigned sales agreements, mismatched serial numbers, and forms that fail to include the make, model, and year of the clunker being traded in. Hmmmm. Those are all harmless mistakes, no doubt. But if people at NHTSA weren't eyeballing every application, chances are that there would be a newspaper headline somewhere declaring "Man Gets Clunker Rebate for Matchbox Car." It still might happen.

Dealer groups have been meeting with NHTSA to straighten out the foul-ups and make sure their own members are following procedures and playing by the rules. Odds are this will all get sorted out soon, the pace of rebates will pick up, and dissident dealers will quiet down and rejoin the program.

Bush positives: - concept of No Child Left Behind
- Tax cuts resulting in 52 consecutive months of job creation
- minimized federal funding of abortion
- Partial Birth Abortion Ban Act
- Global HIV/AIDS funding
- instrumental in expanding NATO alliance
- Roberts & Alito and other strict constructionalist judge appointments.
- consolidated and reformed intelligence sharing
- parts of Homeland Security (agencies under HS should've consolidated more to reduce costs not as much new spending)
- Bush Admin thwarted additional terrorist attempts to attack US citizens/interests.
- Afghanistan (should've had better long term strategy)
- Iraq (actual war well executed, long term strategy not-so-much.) Troop surge worked though.
- Response to early 2000s (Clinton) recession.
- Economic Stimulus Act (mostly tax rebates)
- Do Not Call Act

It's a sad day when the left think those things are conservative. If he had a D next to his name they would've circled the wagons around him and said he was a centrist.

Surprise, a lefty from LA disagrees. You're right though:
- the concept of helping all children succeed in school, especially in lower and mid-lower income areas, and holding schools accountable for performance is a crappy idea.
- so is stopping Partial Birth abortion
- the Bush Admin of course had nothing to do with stopping terrorist attacks from 2001-2008.
- who cares about the millions in Africa that Bush approved funding saved from AIDS & death.
- we should've never went after Bin Laden and the Taliban, we deserved 9/11.
- I enjoy telemarketing calls at dinnertime.

I'll just drop another hit, how silly of me to even post.

This is not a Bush issue...we already had a thread on what Bush did right...let's focus on Obama. Bush has NOTHING to do with what Obama has done right or wrong. The country wanted "change", well they got their wish...let's move on.

ARE YOU SERIOUS?!?! Bush has a TON to do with how Obama is doing. Think of it in football terms: you have one head coach for 8 years who sets the team up a certain way. When he leaves the team and a new coach comes in there is bound to be some carry over. If the old coach left the team in ruins its clearly going to take the new guy a little while to get everything sorted out. If the old coach left the team in a strong state it's up to the new guy to at least keep the good times going.

And don't you think that "the country wanted 'change'" because there were a ton of people who thought Bush was doing a ton of damage and that someone like McCain would not do enough to reverse the trend? People didn't want change just for shits and giggles.

If we get into Bush (again, for the 1 millionth time on this site) then going after Obama full strength will be in order. Bush bashing has been common play here for quite some time, we are talking about what Obama has done right. My point was to say this is an obama thread, not Bush.

Very true...although it's interesting to note that when anyone mentioned how actions taken (or not taken) during the Clinton administration may have impacted the Bush administration that was usually brushed aside. Every president affects future presidents. It didn't just start with Bush/Obama
