I get what you're saying. Plenty of folks around here were throwing him under the bus after the Balt and Pitt games. I totally agree that it's foolish to condemn him based on those two brief appearances.

Last night he played solid but unspectacular. His performance definitely made me feel better about what he's capable of, but I'm not drawing any decisive conclusions from it. It was one half of one preseason game. Saying that he can flat out play based on a game where he didn't even throw a TD is a bit of a stretch IMO. It did however show he's not nearly as bad as a lot of Warpathers think. If you can extrapolate that kind of performance out over an entire season, I think we'll have ourselves a very solid quarterback.

your right about the circumstances and drawing any conclusions from the first 2 games, but you can also say the same thing about the 3rd game. Were not evaluating a rookie, weve had 3 yrs of Jason and to say from 1 preseason game you cant suddenly anoit greatness.{thats not exactly what your saying, but I think you know what I mean}We know JC can play, hes shown flashes of it,but the same thing could be said for a lot of qbs,I just think you got a little too excited about 1 preseason game, thats all I'm saying, and on the same token some people get too excited about his poor play in preseason,I dont think you can base any hard conclusions from any of the first 3 games. That said,JC's last game does raise my spirits and gives me hope for the season.
Just shelled out the bucks for directtvs sunday ticket and superfan package,so I'll be able to see the games in houston, and JC's last performance gives me hope that I didnt waste my money

I have to concur with this statement. Was proud of what Campbell did, I hope he can take this and sustain the momentum in Week 1

Re: I Was impressed!!!

Maybe the long layoff from football has dulled my memory a bit, but JC just seemed to be FIRING balls in there tonight. His arm looks very strong this year.

I agree, JC played as good as he could possibly play and he looked good. But like most on here who dont put too much stock in the preseason (when JC looked terrible) I'm not ready to crown him an all-pro just yet.

The thing that concerns me is the O line, I thought they looked vulnerable to being pushed around.

The offensive approach seemed to differ somewhat from what we've seen in the past. There seemed to be more of a concentrated effort on getting the ball down the field, more 5-7 step drops which coinside with Campbell's arm strength. He certainly seems to be more comfortable with the deeper drops.

Nice to see it on 1st and 2nd down when the D wasn't necessarily expecting it.

That is all because the o-line could protect. You just can't do 5-7 step drops with longer routes if you can't block.

It's funny how we football fans are: a few weeks back ALL we could talk about was the o-line troubles. Now, they play well and we all don't mention it (me included) and rave about JC and Zorn. Those plays can't occur without decent pass pro. Lord protect the health of the o-line!!!

(PS Yeah, the Pack looks good--my father-in-law keeps sending me texts gloating about it. Circle the Minn-GB games on your non-skins schedule!)

And because the blocking has improved, the approach can be different. Without adaquate blocking it won't matter if it's 3-5-or 7 steps the results will be mixed. The approach to the passing game was what I was impressed with. There weren't any three yard completions on 3rd & 8.

A Gun Slinger? Colt? Puh-lease. He can't throw the ball further 40 yards.

Re: I Was impressed!!!

And let's give it up for Zorn too, looks like he's made some nice adjustments to the offense and getting the ball down the field seems like a big priority.

Much agreed. I think he has more to work with this time around and it makes him look better. But that is not to knock Zorn. He is putting the pieces together quite nicely. The offense seems much more dynamic by design.

Re: I Was impressed!!!

The reasons Campbell will succeed this year are:

1- Second year in Zorn system
2- OL has improved
3- and the most import one is the emergence of Kelly, Thomas, Fred Davis and Marko Mitchell (4 offensive weapons that didn't produce or weren't on the team last year).

Don't forget it's a contract year for him as well. He's playing for the benjamims.
