It wouldn't be a cap hit, because his contract wouldn't be ended. It goes to the team acquiring him.

CC might have to give us the final verdict on this, Its not like it is in baseball , I'm 99.9% sure you still take a cap hit.

Portis' cap hit for 2005 is $2.4M.

If we trade him we'll eat $9.6M of dead cap.

In other words, it ain't happening.

Yes, but not his prorated signing bonus which would result in the dead cap.

Maybe the cap hit would be worth it though...we could get a lot of talented players for Portis...

If we didnt have the dead cap space we already have, it could be possible. However, we cant afford what would be about 15-20 in dead cap. Thats way too much.
