True - If they believe you have committed a crime, a cop will not give you a road map on how to get out of it. Will they work to the limits of the law to get incriminating evidence against you? Yup - that's part of their job. But, in doing so, they don't "lie to get their way".

I understand you being offended by this but in all honesty most officers will do ANYTHING if they think you are guilty. I think this tends to be one of the roots of the problems with Celebs getting off on stuff. When you or I get stopped for something like DUI the officer will go to the end of the earth to get us to incriminate ourselves even if it stretches what they can legally do. It is just accepted practice. When they get a celeb on the hook they do the same things but in the end the celebs and high priced lawyers get them off becuase of the things they do to coerce. I think I'd rather have cops doing this since it gets most DUIers off the roads.

Cops are allowed to lie to suspects and they do. It in no way incompatible with their oath. If they lie on the stand, thats another thing altogether, but it is extremely commonplace for officers to lie to suspects, and perfectly legal.

I would also point out that ST's conviction is the same penalty he would have received if he were moderatly drunk. He did not "get off" because he was rich. HOWEVER, by not being convicted of an alcohol related crime, he has remained outside of the league's substance abuse program.

Bottom line - it was the judge's call and based on the report in the paper, it looked like a reasonable person could have (but not neccearily) reached the same conclusion. From the report in the papter, and even if he wasn't a pro athelete, a judge could have thrown it out based on what he saw on the tape.

Truth is, without seeing the tape it is hard to say whether or not this judge cut Taylor slack.

JoeRedskin: I've seen too many friends get caught from an officer lying. They like to saying they have confessions they don't, etc. Are all of them evil? Not at all, just don't take their advice if you're in trouble for a hill of beans. Maybe not most of them, but quite a few I've seen, at least in this area (which isn't exactly the best area to grab them from.)

perhaps lying is too strong of a word, how about coercion?
