It's just like my drill instructor used to say to me, "If ifs and buts were candy and nuts, we'd all be fat mother effers". Show me the money! No excuses.

Re: What If...We Win?
I think Zorn needs to win 10 games and look good doing it to survive. He may even need to make the playoffs but if I were DS I'd have to think long and hard before I fired a coach who won double digit games. I don't think just scraping over the bar at 9-7 will save Zorn because there will be too many highly qualified HC candidates available for DS to settle for a mediocre coach.
That would require beating some very good teams |

Re: What If...We Win?
Trust me, 9-7 and Zorn and Blache are out of here. I think 9-7 and a first round playoff berth and they're gone.
A second round playoff appearance, Hunter Smith knocking out the lights of Jerry's Jone's screen per Zorn, Zorn on his knees begging Danny to keep his job, run a few fire drills, 50 push-ups, 100 sit ups and Danny might let him stay. |

Re: What If...We Win?
If Zorn makes the playoffs, Ill be happy and wont complain, but Im am still in favor of firing Vinny and hiring a real GM regardless. I would def but 4 Zorn and JC staying if we do make the playoffs.

Re: What If...We Win?
At this point and with this schedule 9-7 would represent an epic turnaround. The combined records of the next three opponents is 0-9 so really you need to get those wins, but it is very unlikely they go 3-0. Hopefully you can beat Tampa Bay and Kansas City, legitimately bad teams, at home. I don't see the Skins going into the Carolina, facing a desperate team who is coming off a bye week, and stealing a victory. So that puts you, best case, 3-3 heading into the varsity portion of the schedule. If Zorn can come up with 6 wins against the NFC East, New Orleans, @ Atlanta, and @ San Diego he really would be doing something. That is eight of the games, he also gets to face Denver at home (who looks improved on defense, if not quite as good as 3-0 would suggest), and a terrible Oakland team on the road. Even the Oakland game will be tough because it is a West Coast trip. If you come out of that 9-7, after the way they looked against St. Louis and Detroit, then Zorn would really have done something good. It seems pretty hard to imagine right now. If they play at the level they have so far you are looking at something like 6-10 or worse.
Frankly we will know a lot more after this week. If you lose to Tampa than you have now dropped 2 conference games to two of the worst teams in the conference. Forget playoffs at that point because you won't be winning any tiebreakers. Then it just becomes a bunch of guys playing for their jobs and it will get even uglier.

Re: What If...We Win?
Well clearly, we would win the last 5 and beat the Giants in the NFC Championship game. I would go further and say we could win 7 games as we will beat Dallas 3 times, including the divisional games. Geez how could you not see that.

Re: What If...We Win?
Wow. This is a tough question. I don't know what keeo Zorn here other than a complete turn around before the bye week. If we limp into the bye at 2-5 I think Zorn may be fired at that point. Of course, that being said I don't think 9-7 and missing the playoffs will keep him his job either. 9-7 isn't going to be good enough in the NFC this year to make the playoffs. 10-6 or better in the NFC to get the Wildcard.
Even then Zorn is going to need to fight to get to 10-6 and win a playoff game. Then he gets to stay. Right now that is a very daunting task for the HC.

Re: What If...We Win?
If they continue to play like shit but eventually turn the corner and finish strong (a la Marty), I think Snyder might be inclined to give Zorn another season and even sign Campbell to a long term deal. Maybe the light bulb will go off in Zorn's head sometime. He's still pretty much a rookie play caller after all.
But in all likelihood, we will have a new coach, QB and hopefully GM next year.

If we suddenly start winning games this will be a more peaceful place on Sunday nights, and throughout the coming week. Depending on the success we have going foreward will determine whether Zorn get's more time. If the team snaps out of it's funk and begins to win games then Zorn should be safe in 2010 and beyond. The man needs more time with all the parts neccessary to produce a winning team . Some say he does not need the tools neccessary to win, in other words, he should be able to make bricks out of straw. |

Re: What If...We Win?
Well we started off last year winning games so I don't see why we could not go on another one. In sports its funny how one play, game, or series of the two and things go from bad to good. I for one will not write off a season after 3 games and 13 more to play.
