Btw, I apologize for my wording in my post. I am clearly fustrated..

Better NFL RBs than Portis:
Adrain Peterson
Tomlinson
Westbrook
Brandon Jacobs
Marion Barber
Felix Jones
Ronnie Brown
Thomas Jones
Frank Gore
McFadden
Mendenhall
Ray Rice
Michael Turner
Forte
Chris Johnson
Jones-Drew
Cedric Benson (so far this year)
DeAngelo Williams

Others I'd rather have, but you could argue either way:

Jonathan Stewart
L. McCoy
K. Moreno
Slaton
A. Bradshaw
F. Jackson

The Redskins have the worst offensive line in the NFL. I'm sure you can probably pull one of your typicall bullshit stats out of your ass and say they aren't... They are and have been for a while.
Certainly not a top ten line, but for the most part they have been adequate. What hasn't been adequate is the playcalling or a QB who can complete passes to keep drives alive.

Nice list, id have Slaton in the top one though. And yes we need a QB who can keep drives going and finish. Rodgers gets killed and still puts up TD's so it can be done.

Jackson, Moreno are going to be good. Stewart and Williams are a great tandem. I haven't seen enough of McCoy but the word is that he is going to be a good one too.

Ray Rice is a beast too. You might even add Darren Sproles to that maybe list. That guy can change a game even though he might not be an everydown back.

Yes, there are alot of RB's who are better than CP. I just think he's slowed in the last couple years. He's gone thru 4 years of JG's offense. My god, he's lucky to be walking.

i really, really hope we make it to the uncapped year. We have so much dead weight to cut. Traditionally, work stoppage/strike years have been very kind to the Skins. This one could as well, though in a different way...

One thing I would like to see is, Mason being used more than 1 or 2 carries a game. I want him to take a chunk of carries, people say he's like another Portis, Betts but I disagree. I say him a chance and let's see what he can do, I bet people will be surprised.

There are several young players on this team that are not getting the opportunity to play. That could be part of the many problems the team is experiencing. Maybe the question should be: How many running backs are better than Portis?

I would argue that Portis' talent is bordering replacement-level at this point (think Correll Buckhalter)--the difference is that Portis is making $10m/season from 2010-2014 while a player of his current talent ability will run you, say, $2m in an open market. Given that he still has a good bit of trade value, that would be the first thing on my to-do list for the 2010 offseason.

Re: How many starting RBs are worse than Portis?

I can't believe people are still arguing about this shit.
Here's a little quiz for you.
1.)Which one of these players has the worst starting quarterback on there team
A.)Portis(Jason Campbell)
B.)Turner(Matt Ryan)
C.)Forte(Jay Culer)

2.)Which of the above players has the worst Oline?
3.) Which if the three RB's above is averaging the most yards per carry?

The answer is A to all three questions. So even with the terrible Oline and the poor perfroming QB, Cinton Portis still is averaging more YPC then the other 2 players.

I think people bitch just to bitch about something. Yea he's not the best in the league but he not as bad as everyone is making him out to be.

I dont like this topic. Offensive line is too big a factor for us to properly judge portis.

Take out the 78 yd run yesterday, and he's averaging about 3.5 YPA.

Or truncate it at 30 (which would be a season high), and it's 3.8 YPA.

Why do we need to take it out?

Because when you're doing a statistical breakdown to look at what a true average is, you often throw out statistical anomalies, like 78 yd runs. If you want to throw out his worst run, we'll throw out a -5 and Portis will still average about 3.5 YPA.

GTripp is much better at explaining the theories behind stats than I am, I'm sure he'll chime in.

Then throw it out for all the other backs in the league and compare their stats.
