It's like he's a conduit for profit and only cares that the fans look really silly by getting so angry and wearing bags and all that. He knows there won't be change and we're stuck with him so the only empathy he can have is that we look really dumb protesting the condition of the Skins.

Why are there people sticking up for Snyder on this one. He is such an ego maniac that he has to do things his way. In business and he understand this when your business model fails, ultimately you go out of business. Certainly Snyder has had his fair share of bankruptcy dealings to know that when you fail it starts with the leadership of the business.

In this case, it is the Redskins he is heading up. He insisted on keeping Gibbs Assistants (minus Gregg Williams and Earnest Byner) and then interviewing the head coach. Who on earth would do that? Why would a coach want to come to place where the staff is already been selected for you?

In a business when you are asked to head a project or company, you get to pick your people that you know that you can trust to what you want them to do. I don't blame Zorn because certainly when you have the opportunity to be a head coach with all the money and prestige you get, you take it but was Zorn the best candidate for the job from the interview pool? NO, he was not. Schwartz, Spagnoulo, Jim Harbaugh, and the Indy coach were far better candidates than Zorn. The Redskins claimed that they turned down all those candidates or they weren't interested. I am sure that those candidates would never say that they weren't interested because they wouldn't want another organization to look and see how they handled the interview process and bad mouth a team.

So Snyder struck out there and decided to make a patch work coaching staff. Then he and his racketball partner decided not invest money in the offensive line that had not really been upgraded even prior to coach gibbs returning.

This is totally baffling and confusing. OK, so they put their fingers in the dam and hoped that nothing would go wrong. Mid-season, 6-2 and things were cruising until they hit the hardest part of their schedule playing some of the most physical teams in the league starting with Pittsburgh which just out muscled our offensive line and put intense pressure on campbell causing him to throw his first interception of the year. Right then and there, the front office should have made plans in the off season to either draft an OL or sign a premium OL in free agency. Instead they invested more in the defense, which I am not against because of the lack of pressure we put on the QB, but a lot of money was invested in two players when they could have probably gotten Hall cheaper than what they did and they may have been able to get Haynesworth down too.

I know that Dockery re-signed here, but what about the tackle position and what about RG where Randy Thomas and Samuels were aging? They did nothing other than sign a player who had eaten his way out of the NFL (Williams)and then signed another player who played sporadically with a couple of NFL teams (Bridges). Why were these positions ignored? Don't even start on Rhinehart because if you are a third round pick and can't get on the field you have real problems. We could have drafted players that could have helped right away. Instead we draft DB and some LBs which was a need, but serious what does Snyder have against OL and DL?

Snyder hired Cerrato to manage the personnel and coaches of this team. When you hire a guy whose track record has been average at best and the money doesn't match up with the win/loss record, then you have to make a change and accept responsibility. Snyder wants to put this on Zorn, well he should look no further because he thought he was being some sort of NFL scout by saying that he thought that this guy was going to be a really good NFL coach. When Cerrato goes as well as Zorn, the only one who will be left to hold the bag will be Snyder and it is a bag filled with garbage. He made it now he has to take it.

Cerrato Discusses the Offensive Line

I happened to be listening to ESPN 980's pre-game show on my way to FedEx Field Sunday morning, and Vinny Cerrato came on for a pre-game interview with Larry Michael. Now, we all know that the focal point of fan distress over this team's personnel has overwhelmingly focused on the offensive line, and Michael was unusually pointed when questioning Cerrato about his handiwork.

"Vinny you catch a lot [of heat] over the weeks in terms of the roster, where this team is," Michael began. "But take a look at the offensive line, this has your stamp on it today. You've got Mike Williams, a project that YOU picked up as the guy making the decisions on the team, he's the right tackle. Stephon Heyer is to the left. Will Montgomery, another Vinny Cerrato guy. Derrick Dockery, you brought him in this year. So this offensive line today has your stamp on it, doesn't it?"

"Yeah," Cerrato agreed, his voice literally cracking. "Well, it did with Chris Samuels in it, too. I mean, the same, you know, last week, Mike Williams was playing right guard, and Heyer was playing right tackle, and Samuels was playing left tackle, so that did too. So, you know, I don't see what that really matters, Larry."

"Are these guys, however, better suited for these positions today, with Mike out there and Stephon at the left side?" Michael followed up.

"I think Stephon is more natural at left tackle, and Mike's always been a right tackle, but he didn't play bad at right guard," Cerrato answered. "So you know, I think that, yeah, I think they'll play well today."

This made no sense to me at 11:30 in the morning, and it makes no sense to me now, but there's really nothing left to say any more. Rarely are the media jackals this completely right. I've never played a down of real football in my life, and yet in August, I--like everyone else--was saying that this offensive line was one or two injuries away from disaster.

Against the 32nd ranked NFL defense--a team that had been allowing 27.6 points and 402.8 yards a game, we saw what disaster looked like. It looked like a cold, wet, smashed hot dog bun that's been run over by a Hummer, stomped on by a marching band, doused with lighter fluid and then smeared onto the side of a porta-potty.

Incidentally, the offensive line also came up earlier during the pre-game show.

"Sonny, the offensive line, we saw it coming in the preseason," Kevin Sheehan said to Sonny Jurgensen. "We talked about it in the preseason, that if it didn't stay healthy it was gonna be in trouble. How much trouble are they in right now?"

"They're in trouble," Jurgensen said. "They didn't address it. They did NOT address the problem during the offseason, and they had to. I was talking to a general manager earlier in the year, and he said, 'The one thing that we went into the season wanting, we wanted TWO offensive lines. We wanted to make sure we had enough linemen, if people went down, you could plug in and be able to continue to play.' "

Imagine that. A few more nuggets from Cerrato's appearance.

On the second-year receivers: "I think you'd like more production. But I think that they're making progress. And what they need is, they need to gain confidence. And if you catch balls early in the game, I think you gain confidence. And when you have confidence, I think then it just carries over. You have a carryover factor. So I think if they can get going early, just like any receiver, they get going early, I think then they become a huge factor in the game."

[Those guys combined for 1 catch for 12 yards, and 1 carry for 2 yards. For the season, they've combined for 144 receiving yards, two yards more than Eagles rookie Jeremy Maclin had last week. Guess Maclin has more confidence.]

On the offense: "The key is to score points....We've got to score more points."

[Against some of the NFL's worst teams, the Skins scored 40 points in their first three games, and 39 points in their next three games. The Saints have scored at least 45 points three separate times in their first five games. The Patriots scored 45 points in one half on Sunday.]

On Chris Samuels: "I think he's, uh, you know, doing fine, you know. It's just a mental thing, that, you know, he's got to feel better mentally, you know, I think. And, you know, it just takes a little bit of a time."

I've tried to not use harsh or foul language as the team collapsed under Snyder's ownership/management, but the contents of this thread have me boiling! I understand his wife is doing a good thing sponsoring breast cancer awareness week, a cancer survivor herself i believe, but her comments regarding the Redskins verge on insanity. She says we all want the Redskins to do good! Ma'am, your husband is the effing owner, has ruined the franchise, and all you've got is "we all want the Redskins to do good." I think the absurdity of her football comments demonstrate how she and lil Danny live in the smallest bubble on the planet...so much so that his little group of pals is somehow surprised when the crowd begs him to sell the team. And then Vinny's comments...OMG this man sounds like he's mentally retarded (no humor intended). This is the stupid SOB lil Danny Snyder thinks can help manage the franchise!?

...these two are an absolute embarrassment to the league, I'm sorry. Don't come at me with talk of charity work and whatever else, please, as you'll just be playing the sad fool. I hope this season produces a groundswell of disgust and ultimately rejection for Dan Snyder...I hope.

It's not an attack on her at all...we're talking about football here not Snyder's wife. The fact is her husband has literally destroyed a franchise and by both their comments, attitudes, etc etc etc it's painfully obvious they don't even begin to understand that. It's actually more sad than maddening when a little time passes...I think it reflects how far the ownership is, and therefor how far we are, from seeing any kind of turnaround in the near future.

Well putting aside our differing opinions on what Snyder has done to the franchise here, what do you expect her to say? I don't know, I mean obviously everyone is frustrated, and it's apparently impossible to believe that there are people actually involved with the organization from ownership and his family on down that care as much, if not much much more, about what's happening than the fans. I mean I just don't know what she's supposed to say. Her comments are about as relevant as yours or mine in the grand scheme of things. And they were so benign they don't even merit such a strong reaction, in my opinion.
