It would also mean that some day when Gibbs steps down again, that Snyder has to continue to hire GM's or Presidents or whatever you want to call the guy that actual runs the team, because it can never be Snyder again.
Well, hopefully, if this happened, when gibbs stepped down again, we would have had a successful GM and Head Coach in place for several years. I think that if Snyder sees success under a GM, and compares that to the disaster thats occurred over the past decade, he'd stick with the GM/HC model for years to come. Additionally, good GMs often stay in place for decades, even when head coaches come and go. So if Gibbs made a good GM hire, then hopefully the guy would be around for a long, long time. I'd love to get Ghris Polian in here. He's learned from the best and if he struggled, could always fall back on his dad for guidance.

Re: PFT Rumor - Joe Gibbs is Coming Back

Interesting reading from Hog Heaven:

Executive coach and consultant Scott Eblin listed nine management blunders by Snyder in running the Washington Redskins organization for his story on businessmanagementdaily.com.

Among Snyder’s blunders:

Live in the past, The Redskins continue to act as if they are a perennial contender and don’t deal with reality
Manage things you don’t know about, Snyder’s front office is not up to the job
Squeese your customers until they bleed, premium price for an inferior product
Hire and fire rapidly, too much churn at the top operational position
Accept no accountability, Snyder and Vinny Cerrato are the only constants in the last 10 years.
Eblin consults on executive leadership and strategy and is the author of The Next Level: What Insiders Know About Executive Success.
[/B][/B]

His litany of Snyder’s flawed approach to running the Redskins is already familiar to sports writers and bloggers who follow the team. It may be revealing to Sunday fans who think all problems can be fixed by swapping players and coaches.

Since Eblin wrote his peice for a business site, I am surprised that he did not suggest a management fix for each blunder to apply to any business. There are management lessons to be learned–what not to do–watching Snyder’s approach. Eblin leaves it to the reader to form conclusions.

The Danny, of course, isn’t running the football side of the Redskins as a business. He bought the team for the fun of running it–to hang out with “the guys,” to cut the next big deal, to associate with wealthy members of the NFL club. Pay him money and he’ll let you watch.

In that, Snyder is playing with fire. Folks don’t give old line, 80 year old sports teams like the Redskins their loyalty. They give them their allegiance. Name another business model where customers wait years to do business with you becasue their deep existing relationship.

Fans on the season ticket waiting list feel an active partnership with the team even though the franchise does not have capacity to seat them.

Fans own the Redskins. Snyder owns the franchise rights to sell to them, along with the property and trademark rights to Washington Redskins. None of that gives him the right to mismanage the team.
