Re: Steelers GM
Just so every one knows. Pittsburg does not pick Olinemen in the early rounds. They never pick an offensive lineman, before the third round.

Re: Steelers GM
They do something with their linemen that we do not: COACH THEM.

Re: Steelers GM
Look, I've admired Buges for decades. But the fact is that our line in recent years has revealed both a lack of talent and a lack of coaching.

Re: Steelers GM
the greatest coach in the world wouldn't make a difference with these stiffs. you need talent first. then a good coach can make a difference

Re: Steelers GM
Good call. And their entire team for that matter. They could take most of our players and turn them into serious ballers. They absorb players into their system and get max production. Kind of how the Skins did in the 80s. When players left the Skins, they were never the same.

Re: Steelers GM
Yeah, that was the one thing that jumped out at me last night when they were showing the Steelers last 10 or so first round picks: no O-linemen. I was worried that Vinny was watching the game going "See, see! I knew I didn't need to draft linemen!"

Re: Steelers GM
I thought Pittsburgh didn't have a good offensive line?

Re: Steelers GM
They really dont but because they don't have BUM ASS JC, they actually can make plays downfield and put up pts.

Re: Steelers GM
Yeah , but Vinny never picks Oline altogether. They pick one to three every draft. There line is constnatly getting better, they are young and are very good run blockers.

RT Willie Colon and LT Max Starks also looked strong. With big and young RB Rashard Mendenhall running hard. I laughed hard when old WR Hines Ward hurdled Champ Bailey's tackle attempt and scored a TD. Champ was humiliated. Steelers are peaking and looking like the strongest team at the moment. |

Washington Redskins All-Time Draft Listing | Pro-Football-Reference.com Pittsburgh Steelers All-Time Draft Listing | Pro-Football-Reference.com What jumps out at me is how many more picks Pittsburgh has made looking over the last 10-12 years. During that stretch, there have been 4 drafts where the Skins have had 5 picks or fewer. Pittsburgh has 7 to 9 picks almost every year of that stretch with the exception of 2003 (when they hit big on Polamalu). They've had many misses during that stretch, but they've had enough hits from their numerous picks that they have the quality depth that we are sorely lacking. |

I would add to this discussion that by all accounts the Giants have a fine offensive line. But they don't start a bunch of first rounders. Their starters are low picks and undrafted FA's. The difference is that they coach these folks to play better. So I think that the woes on the Skins o-line derive from poor strategies for talent acquisition combined with poor coaching.
