The Redskins are the #1 defense in pass yardage allowed per game allowed 159.9 yards per game. Say what you want about his tackling and run support. In the pass game he is doing his job. Mr. Landry is the leader of our secondary. His issues in the run game are easily correctable. Safety can be a lot like Offensive lineman, in that if you do not hear his name they are playing well in the passing game. QB's throw away from good FS, so you might not hear their name in defending the pass. A tipped pass or an over thrown pass for a pick is when you usually hear the name of a good FS in the passing game. Right now the few good players we have are trying too hard because the are frustrated with our constant losing. Don't throw out the baby with the bath water. We have very few of the good young ones. He can come back from this. Who on this squad is playing lights out right now? |

Re: Landry is now a bust!
I just want to say that Ithink that Landry is no where near as bad as this thread makes him out to be but at the same time he is nowhere near the top tier at his position. If I had to regrade the 2007 draft I'd say Landry should have been a second round pick.

Re: Landry is now a bust!
I agree with OP/The Goat. I saw those missed tackles and they weren't even close. The only time I usually remember his name for doing something in a game is for a missed tackle or a late hit.
I haven't given up on him yet, but the people who say he's still great are usually the ones who say that Campbell can still be our franchise QB. Both are possible - but after a couple of years -- hope is merely hope and you really want some action. I hope he pans out. |

Could have had Peterson or Willis instead.

Re: Landry is now a bust!
At least the issue is being addressed within Redskins Park:
News & Notes: Landry Talks Tackling Gray's comment here says it all: "I think LaRon is going to be a lot better," Gray said. "The thing you have to do is take a better angle. LaRon is not going to shy away from contact. We have to keep understanding to use the the old wrapping technique when a guy gets into open space. Just get him down." I'm no psychiatrist but that sure sounds like "Landry has been avoiding contact...it's not going to continue." But it's a little scary too. Aside from being a liability to your defense, the guy who shy's away from contact always seemed the most likely to get hurt out there. Landry has basically missed contact altogether when the impact could really hurt i.e. flailing his body 3 feet wide of the ball-carrier or simply diving to the turf as he did on Turner's 2nd TD. But if he does it "half-way" the next time, making contact but w/ lousy technique I think that's a real dangerous situation for the scared kid.

Re: Landry is now a bust!
LaRon Landry needs to be moved to SS where he can be closer to the LOS. He is a better suited for blitzing and tackling near the LOS. He would be a monster near the LOS were he could use his speed and physical ablity. I bet he would cause some FF if he played closer to the LOS. We need to put Kareem Moore at FS.

Re: Landry is now a bust!
Can I just bump this thread so I can complain about how Landry feels the need to stroke his own ego after every tackle he makes? I mean come on, if you pound some WR coming across the middle, okay cool. Thats worth celebrating. But if you just tackle a RB who got a 6 yard gain and you feel the need to celebrate over that?
Is something wrong with Landry in the head or...? If anyone watches Ravens games does his brother do that BS? I get the feeling he doesn't...
