I guess that's why Greg Williams said he thought within a couple years Sean Taylor would be the best blitzer on the team and one of the best in the NFL. He's fast and hits like a tank, as much as I love WRs getting beat up, I much prefer watching a QB crawl to the sidelines in agony. I know everyone here is too politically correct to say it, but you want hard hits for that VERY reason. Make them pay and think twice!
I feel that you should be able to bring one safety and trust the other one in the back. Both guys have uses, but as far as a starter goes I go ST FS and Lott SS. If Lott isn't an option, as the poll states, gotta go with Clark. He's less of a liability. Bowen should certainly be mixed in. We have a lot of very good safeties: Taylor, Lott, Clark, Bowen, Franz in that order, and I think Franz is pretty damn good for being last. The way we blitz, having Bowen unable to cover Springs/Smoots man when they blitz could lead to BIG plays. ST is a ballhawk, without a doubt, but the more we move him around, the more oppurtunities we'll get. Any team that's not coached by SC will soon be gameplanning around Taylor, if they don't know where he is, it helps a lot! |

I think between Bowen and Clark, Bowen is the better rusher/run stoper, Clark is slightly better in coverage, although niether are great in coverage. Lott is the best in coverage out of the three. I'm a pretty big Bowen fan though, I see no need to add any more saftey's to the mix. I think between Taylor, Bowen, Clark, Lott and Franz, were set.

I like Lott best as well but what about picking up someone in the draft? Like Matt Pusateri of Miami of Ohio or Ben Emanuel of UCLA. At the corner I have heard good things from Carlos Rogers out of Auburn. He's is a corner but could move to Safety but most likely will be gone before the thrid round,

Look Bowen never makes big hits in games too often (a couple sacks) and his coverage is a weakness when he is on the field the other team is an audible away from a big play. besides Taylor is the enforcer now we need the other safety to be a good cover man. Never did like Bowen since he knocked Smoot out in practice, Smoot plays defense for christ's sake. Plus he is hurt every year. we need someone more durable like Ryan Clark plus he is younger than Bowen , Bowen should be a pro bowler by this point in his career and since he is not then he is expendable.

I feel like Taylor and Lott as starters with Clark rotating in and Bowen every now and then. Bowen looks real freaking stupid running behind slow receivers like Keyshawn Johnson as they glide into the endzone (40 plus yard touchdown!) plus like every year he will be hurt again. Chad Johnson would feast off Bowen atleast Lott would be there to tackle him after the catch and Tayler would pick the pass off.
Bowen is a hole in the secondary. |

Clark will get better and because he and Taylor can get better together, learn how play well with each other.
