I thought that the play design was actually pretty good. It should have left Yoder or Davis wide open.
The problem was that it was a surprise play and the element of surprise was lost with the timeout we took. To me, it was a good play that was very poorly implemented. To answer the question asked above, the swinging gate has been implemented successfully many times. My own high school team defeated our arch-rivals with the play. But in the NFL it is only going to work when combined with the element of surprise.
