I couldn't disagree more. Even a blind squirrel finds a nut sometimes. Cowher coached a long time and a lot of bad/mediocre seasons until he finally got one. Shanny will also bring an offense to DC. Like it or not, throwing the rock wins games. 11/12 of the playoff teams have a top 16 team in passer rating.

I agree, I can't take anymore ball control offense anymore. I want touchdowns and I want them now!

I think both are fine coaches in their own right but yeah, given the choice I would take Shanahan because of his offenses.

But if you compare them, Cowher actually comes out ahead in winning percentage .623 to .598 so I think he did a little more than just get lucky here and there.

why don't you wikipedia shanahan and cowher's coaching records? cowher's steelers were in the playoffs 75% of the time. they won the division 50% of the time. his win/loss record is superior to shanahans. he has more recent success than shanahan. his team played in a division very similar to our own. cowher's record is vastly surprior to shanahan's in every respect i can think of.

if anyone was a blind squirrel, it was shanahan - he only won 1 playoff game since elway retired. whereas his team got worse over the years, cowher's got better. shanahan's a good coach, and a great upgrade over zorn, but cowher is the superior coach. its not even debatable.

nope. I had no complaints about shanahan until I knew cowher was an option. of course, as someone mentioned, its possible cowher was just using the skins - presumably to leverage a better deal elsewhere.

Nope. I've been on the record here for quite a while as indicating cowher was my #1 choice. I just didnt think he was "available" to us.

I'm Just saying we'd be fools to chose shanahan over cowher, all other things being equal. Cowher's the superior coach. i'm not unhappy about shanahan inofitself.

I'm not "yelling fire." I'm a homeless man who has lived on the street for the past 12 years or so who's being given either a $500,000 dollar house that could appreciate in value to $700,000 over the next 5 years or a $600,000 house that could appreciate in value to $800,000 in that same time period. i'm greatful to finally have a place to live and i'll take what i can get - but i'd rather have the better house. thats all.

The only problem is Shanahan runs the WCO which JC has been under for the last 2 yrs. Cowher runs a Schottenheimer style offense. We basically would be definitly starting completely over most likely with terminology as well. If we stay with Shanahan the turn over would be less stressful on the players and they might adjust to it quicker since they have been already running a WCO.

Campbell actually was "born" to play cowher's shottenheimer-style offense. Wherever Cowher ends up, I would not at all be surprised to see Campbell follow him. Campbell was DRAFTED to play in a shottenheimer-style offense and he spent the first years in the NFL in that type of offense. the WCO actually exposes alot of his faults. He's gotten better at it, but its still not "comfortable" for him. in any case, Campbell has been in enough offenses in his career, i really doubt there's anything that will be "new" to him at this point. I guess your right with exposing his weakness's, but don't forget JC played in a WCO in college and actually played well enough to win a bowl. I think Zorn's issue is he didn't like the long windup and slow throw. So he tries to change it. Even Colt Brennan looked horrid trying to utilize the throwing motion Zorn wanted. Why not just let the QB throw the ball how he has been throwing it for his entire life. A throwing motion they have used and have muscle memory as to when to release the ball to get the ball where they want it. Now you change it up and you have QB's trying to think too much in order to get the job done vs. simply backing up and throwing the ball down field.

I understand your question and have thought the same. However, QB's have not been throwing all their lives against NFL defenses, where defenders are bigger, faster, and smarter, and therein lies the difference.

long windup: not a problem so much in college but NFL defenders will jump the throw
sidearm release (Brennan): not a problem so much in college but a big problem when facing tall, athletic NFL linemen and linebackers
