Re: Shanahan The New Head Coach Of the Redskins

I like it! I feel this truly might be the beginning of a new era, cant wait to see how all the pieces fall in to place over the coming weeks and months. Unlike some other posters here, I know at the very least we will be a much improved team very quickly, hell we are already better cause vinny and zorn are gone, so pipe down a bit bigheadaristocrat and have just a little hope for the future.

Shanahan should look no further than Jerry Gray or Kirk Olivadotti. Zimmer is still with the Bengals as they are in the playoffs and can't agree to a contract till their season is over. I hope Shanahan decides to give Gray a shot at DC, that's the least the Redskins could do for putting him in 2 fake interviews to meet the Rooney rule.

The way Gray was talking after the game, it made me think he knew something. After that interview I thought he had a chance but it sounds like Zimmer's gonna be the man. I think it was SS that said he'll look around first.

We won't need him until after the SB, no need to pick one now.

If they are intent on Zimmer we have to wait. Might as well enjoy Bengals football this weekend and observe Zimmer's skills. He failed misserably on prime time though. Hopefully it was a fluke and he can contain the Jets the second time around. If not then I'll be a little skeptical about a DC that can't adjust from game to game. Oh wait we had that last year.

Re: Shanahan The New Head Coach Of the Redskins

Is there some place where you can go to look at coach's contracts or when they expire?

Someone mentioned bringing in OL Dennison from Denver. I didn't realize he was the OL coach for 9yrs. I thought it was Alex Gibbs that made the OL great. Alex is only in his second year with Houston and is called Asst. HC. I don't think we can make up any better fancy name then what he has now unless you call him the HC. But Dennison has been with Denver for 15yrs and 9yrs as OL coach. He's only listed as OL coach.

I would like to see them pick up Bobby Turner RB coach from Denver also.

I dont know how to feel about this.It kinda seems like we still have a puppet GM if Shanahan has final say on everything.I dont have the info to back it up,I have a good friend in Denver that says Shanahans personel moves were terrible, great coach, terrible talent evaluator.Didnt Shanny spend a high draft pick on that loser RB,cant remember his name.I want Shanny as the coach, not the final say soer

This is all you need to know....

Kyle Shanahan 2008 season:
Quote:
Shanahan’s first year as coordinator was an overwhelming success, as the offense ranked third in the NFL, gaining a franchise-record 6,113 yards and passing for a franchise-record 4,267 yards. The offense was equally adept on the ground, running for 1,846 yards at a team-record 4.3-yard clip. Shanahan helped a pair of players earn Pro Bowl nods, with wide receiver Andre Johnson making his third career trip and tight end Owen Daniels making his first.
2009 season:
Quote:
2009 was a record breaking season for quarterback Matt Schaub, finishing with 4,770 passing yards, the 6th most in a single season in NFL history, and a career high season passer rating of 98.6. On the other side of the ball, wide receiver Andre Johnson had another extraordinary season with 1,569 receiving yards over 101 receptions.
Mike Shanahan:

Quote:
Shanahan is known for a run-heavy variation of the West Coast offense he coached in San Francisco. He has often found unheralded running backs from later rounds of the annual NFL Draft and then turned them into league-leading rushers behind small-but-powerful offensive lines. Examples of this phenomenon are Terrell Davis, Mike Anderson, Olandis Gary, Clinton Portis, Reuben Droughns and Tatum Bell, all of whom have had at least one 1,000-yard season in a Denver uniform over the past 10 years.
I'm excited to see what they put together and how well the system runs next year.

that doesnt tell me anything,I dont know what Kyle has to do with what I said about his father.
What would help is a list of the players drafted and free agents and trades made while Shanny was in charge in Denver.
Also while Shanny might have drafted those rbs,Ive always heard most of the credit for their success given to their blocking schemes and the off line coach they used to have

Isn't this just the 'see what people have done in the past and expect the same result in the future'?

Kind of like bringing back Gibbs, Joe Bugel, The Smurfs #2, Wanting Russ Grimm as coach.

I'm glad these guys had successes where they were but that doesn't translate piece by piece to our team. They have completely different variables here then they had at their respective places.

...The same result or pattern will not translate piece by piece to our situation in Washington. Eventually one has to work with the independent variables or available resources in front of them.

Shanny also famously acquired the entire Browns defensive line. Transplanted it from Cleveland to Denver. And, with guys like Michael Myers, it wasn't that great of a defensive line.
