Re: Coaching Staff update
Look for the team to make an effort at least to obtain BU players who are more adapt and committed to playing ST. The unit we've employed of late are not the best for the job that needs to be done. Far too many instances where two men on the outside could not block one man on PR teams. Minus ARE as a returner, upgrade personnel where possible and Danny Smith can get the job done. I do like Bobby April's resume though, he could be an upgrade.

Re: Coaching Staff update
I'm not sure how many times it's been mentioned that coaches have kept ARE back there.. I'd think Smith would pick someone else but is getting overruled, but who knows

Re: Coaching Staff update
JLC is reporting that Danny Smith is likely to stay on. The Skins have denied permission for him to interview with Seattle, Pittsburgh and Detroit.
Mann is almost certain to be named WR coach by this weekend. Olivadotti possibly in line to be assistant LB coach. |

Re: Coaching Staff update
I imagine if Jerry Gray ends up in Seattle, Olivadotti could follow him there.

Re: Coaching Staff update
I beleive Danny Smith is a great ST coach - there's just no justification for continuing to put ARE back there to return punts. If ARE gets the axe, i'm fine with retaining Smith.
April would have been nice, but remember, it was SNYDER who wanted April, not Shanahan. Since Smith is being retained, its a nice example indicating Snyder isn't trying to forcing his will upon Shanahan yet.

Just because one website used the term "Danny" as a synonym for "Redskins" doesn't mean he had anything to do with it.

Re: Coaching Staff update
Yeah probably PFT just stirring shit up as usual. I don't buy that Snyder would force any hires on Shanahan. Odd that outside of PFT we haven't heard any of this talk about "Snyder being interested in April".

Re: Coaching Staff update
Interesting that in PFT's post about Blache's retirement, Florio mentioned that Blache was a member of "PFT Planet" - I wonder if it was Blache who'd been one of Florio's "sources" providing redskins scoops. I certainly think Blache was one of Reid's sources.

Edit: Big,... have you been taking your medicine lately? Whats with all the positive feed back? sorry gotta pick. I don't know if April refused to interview or not but if he didn't the Skins need to get him. Screw Smith. |

^but as we know the Skins were disfunctional so I guess Smith gets a slight pass. If I was Shanahan and had no other options I'd name Smith also but I would tell him he has 1 year to do something with the ST's. No one can argue that he has the guys tackling well when trying to stop a KR or PR. The issue is our own blocking in those situations. Maybe with a little freedom Smith can show he's not just another ST coach. |
