God knows, Campbell has had enough fingers pointed his direction.

However, I can't side with the folks that say get rid of Portis...He may not be what he used to be, but he is still a valuable member of our team and can still contribute next year. Even taking into account all of his issues, I think we are a better team with him on the roster (not necessarily starting). The bottom line is that I'm curious to see how he does with a Shanahan line and I think he is worth the "risk" of holding on to. Hopefully they will have aired their differences out and moved on.

At least he didn't go all Gilbert Arenas on JC.
I agree with you on the first part...but seriously...what can Portis contribute to this team at this point??

Last season, even before he was injured, he was not running like a starting back. He wasnt running like a backup running back. He couldn't get out of his own way, stumbled over his own feet...fumbled, and just generally looked shot.....can't believe how people can still think he has something left...

I mean I hear ya, and at times have felt the same way, but sometimes i feel like he was changed from the back he was in Denver to fit the Washington system. I feel like we never got the real Clinton Portis. Ultimately, I think that's what's doing him in in terms of his lost burst, his injuries (b/c his body isnt made to take thos type of hit), and his overall dropoff in production. Through a very reliable source, I've heard that he's supposed to go through this training regimen this offseason that involves him being cutoff from everyone but the training staff. If he is around next year and if he sticks to this refocused regimen, I'd be interested to see how the revamped CP does in Shanny's system.

OK i'm with you on all of that. If you look back at Denver games from when Portis was there, Portis ran outside the tackles, and the linemen were smaller and more agile than what we have. He was not a protypical redskin back. Gibbs and co. wanted him to be a pound the rock type guy, and so he was used as a workhorse here. He wasn't big or strong enough for that...so it just pretty much wore him out.

He might be able to get back in shape. I think the real question is his motivation...he has no motivation to get in shape, or practice, or attend meetings. At this point he expects to be cut and frankly, i don't think he really cares. A guy like him isn't going to change his stripes over night. He wants the job but he doesnt want to work for it.

He's done nothing in the last 2 years here to say that he's still a starter. If he gets in shape again, he might have 1 more servicible year....but that depends entirely on getting another back to help him. Portis isn't cut out for 25+ carries anymore at this point in his career...
