You cant let it be known that you are going to cut someone and then ask for trade offers. No one is going to give up a first round pick if they can just try and sign him.
The advantage to trading for Coles for the other team is that we absorb the bonus, which makes his salary very reasonable for the other team. But if the other team has to sign in free agency there is no guarantee that you get him, and you will have to pay a lot more. But if we trade him we take a 9 million dollar cap hit...
