Shanahan wants a 3-4 Defense

Lets just run the 5-2 defense and get it over with. It's like the 3-4 but the OLB's are DE's. You play 3 DT's and keep AH from being the NT to keep him happy. It would look like this.

McIntosh & Fletcher at LB

RE Carter, DT Haynesworth, NT Daniels/Montgomery, DT Griffin, LE Orakpo

We would play to the strength of our defense which is the defensive line by keeping our best players on the field. Orakpo would have his hand back in the dirt most of the time. We would cover up our lack of depth at LB. Just like the 3-4 we could drop D-Linemen into zones, run stunts etc. I think that it is a good fit but then again what do I know? I'm just a fan with some football coaching books, a dream, and a keyboard.
