You mean the Skins' wallet won't be wide open as in years past?

That's silly talk.

Lombardi reporting that Rolle will be resigned in Arizona. They just don't want to pay him 12 mil for one year. Is there a reason why they can't just extend his contract? Why cut him so he was free to sign with another team? Just seems a little risky.

This is from Casserly's comments about picking up some of the FA OL....

Quote:
This year's class of unrestricted free agents is not considered an overwhelming one. Green Bay's Chad Clifton and Arizona's Mike Gandy appear to be the top tackles available. San Francisco's Tony Pashos played under Chris Foerster, Washington's new offensive line coach, with the 49ers and in Baltimore. While he seemed like an early favorite, 49ers head coach Mike Singletary said last week that he's hopeful Pashos will be locked up before he can hit the open market.
I honestly hope Pashos is smart enough to stall his talks with the 49ers until the market opens. I think since he already knows Foersters offensive scheme plus knowing the Skins need OL he would atleast wait and see what the Skins offer him. Hell I'd take whatever the Skins offered just to get away from the nut job of a HC out there.

It will be interesting to see how many of those named wait to test the market or if they are slightly interested in working under Shanahan since he's known to alway have the best offensive line in the NFL.

I thought Singletary had won over the troops last season...no?

Matty- You guys sound really silly right now. We are the Redskins with Dan Snyder as the owner. We will be in play for some free agents. The faces may have changed, but the business stays the same young fella. I honestly think it will be between us and the Seahawks for most players. Although it will be between the Buccs and Bears for the services of Peppers.

I want to agree with you but if Haslett is enamored as the media said with Peppers..... I can see us picking him up. Both the Bucs and Bears are not known to be teams who spend money so if it comes down to a hand full of teams I can see him coming to the Skins. But.... Peppers supposedly has made a comment that he wants to go to a team that is the hunt for a championship. I'm not doubting the Skins but 4-12 does not ring of SB next yr and I would guess as most when starting a new HC it will take 3-5 yrs to get there. Does Peppers have 3-5 yrs left in his tank? and is he willing to be patient?

We sound silly? Really?

Of course we will be in play for some free agents, some being the key word.

Under the radar pick up- Kyle Van DonBosh to play that other dend position. Played with Haynesworth before and has a high motor plus size.

Sb- normally I would agree with you, but I think this team has a faster turn around time. Last year the players gave up on Zorn. The team is better than they looked. There is a new buz around reskins park with Shanny here and Vinny gone. Secondly the Skins have the freedom to go after who ever they want with no cap to stay under. I honestly think we are a offensive line and runningback away from being back in contention.

just an offensive line away. Nothing major, ya know, just a minor part of a football team.

Please note that that is a complete OL, and not one OL player, away. I want the Skins to get to the SB, but between our schedule, yet another new coach, and an unproven line (however it is constituted), we will be a solid team, but I hope that anyone coming in is looked at as atleast a 4 yr player. That's why Sproles would be my number 1 request, at 27 he has his best years coming up.

I sincerely hope I'm wrong but I see it taking longer. Your right we need an offensive line, and I would almost forgo the RB position if I had to not touch one for a year. That's hoping Portis can make a come back, Ganther looks awsome in Shanahan's system, and Alridge becomes the playmaker the team needs. The good news is OL and RB is deep according to all the pundits.

I like JC but the team needs, and especially Shanahan needs, a QB who is accurate with the ball. If the team can find that person either in FA, draft, or Colt finally steps up and shines with accuracy then I'll agree with you that I like our chances of doing pretty good cause I too agree the team is better then they played last year. I think a lot of it was on Zorn and his screwed up scheme, along with man-to-man blocking in a scheme which is supposed to thrive in a zone blocking scheme, plus our injuries.

I guess I'm saying "IF" everything fell into place I could see us making the playoffs in 2 yrs. Give the team a year to learn the system and learn to work together and pick up the remaining missing pieces. I'm concerned about the defense now though. All those years coaching and Haslett really never had a break out season and although I think the defense could be better a lot has to happen.... it has to be the right players in the right scheme, all the players have to buy into it, and maybe it will have a chance. No different then our OL where we have man-to-man blocking OL built for man-to-man and we are going to be changing to a zone blocking system.

lets not forget the year after bruce came to the buccs he sign all those Raiders and went on a spending spree in Tampa. It wouldn't be out of character. I think it will be up to shanny who we get.

Part of the reason among others, as to why Bruce was excited to come here was the freedom to spend money on players. The Glazers have become notoriously cheap as of late especially with the recent explosion of the team.

I don't know how much they're involved at Man U but they traded the Lebron James of soccer in Christiano Ronaldo for $90 million then to calm down the fans they had to make a public statement promising to spend that money on players. If Snyder made that deal how many people would be worried about him spending that money on players?

The Glazers are slowly reverting towards the Bidwell and Mike Browns of the league. Though I will admit that part of it might be because they're maxed out financially.

But anyway back to Bruce, basically the freedom to spend more money was part of the reason this job was so attractive to him.

Quote:
Glazer family promise to spend Ronaldo money on new players for United

Manchester United's American owners, the Glazer family, have insisted they will fund Sir Alex Ferguson's plans to replace Cristiano Ronaldo with "world-class players" after dismissing the "paranoia" of supporters who fear the £80 million transfer fee will be used to service the club's £700 million debt.
