No doubt, I was a youngin but I remember every time that we got near the goal line, we knew who to hand it to.

Gone are the days when RBs even matter that much anymore, at least when it comes to playing in Super Bowls. Look at the last 10 Super Bowls, both the winners and the losers.

Saints, Colts, Steelers (featuring one William Parker), Eagles, Seahawks, Patriots (did they even have any running backs?), Ravens, Raiders, Bears, Rams, Giants, Cardinals.

Outside of Shaun Alexander and Marshall Faulk, these teams didn't have any all-world running backs that carried their teams to victory. Many platooned their backfields or at least got by with a solid enough running game to keep Defenses honest.

Pair Clinton Portis with a Willie Parker or Chester Taylor and mix in a rookie or free agent and now you're cooking with gas. Just need an O line and a credible passing game to open up the running game.

My philosophy on running backs is usually Young and Cheap! But if you have to pay Portis anyway and can get a proven complimentary back without breaking the bank, that will do as well.

I wouldnt care if all of RBs were let go, in that case I feel Taylor would be a nice addition as a no. 2 guy with a young horses at the 1 and 3 slot. BUT if Portis, Rock remain, I am not for adding more age to the corp of RBs.

I look at this offense and see the results the last couple years and really just shake my head. I see need EVERYWHERE. Taylor could bring a weapon. But I see the need for youth at the RB position more than anywhere on the offense. I hope Shanny can find a couple gems mid to late in the draft cause we need a youth infusion out of the backfield. I would not be surprised one bit to see 2 RBs drafted.

I wouldn't mind Chester Taylor on a short deal. He has been used sparringly so probably has a good amount left in the tank. Shanahan has also gone the veteran route on RB's before so it would not be out of character for them to target Taylor. I would prefer a draft pick RB over a free agent but with only like 5 picks most holes are going to need to be filled with free agents.

Why not check him out? Don't know what Betts will bring this year, if we're going to move Betts or Portis then I think that Taylor should definitely be brought in. I'd take Taylor over Betts no doubt. However I wouldn't make him my primary target in FA for RB.

Re: Chester Taylor anyone?

Chester + Clinton (part-time role) would be a great combo.

Re: Chester Taylor anyone?

Chester Taylor has always been a complementary back, he has very very low mileage on him, where as Betts has started a lot more than Taylor, and has had more injuries (knee) than taylor.

I'd take Taylor, but not over spend something like a 3 year $10 million deal

Re: Chester Taylor anyone?

Good point on Betts coming off major surgery, and Taylor not. I retract my earlier statement that Taylor isn't a better option than Betts

I wouldnt be against Taylor at all. I've always liked him as a player and as long as it wouldnt cost us big (which it probably wont) I dont mind.

He can be a stopgap to replace Betts since it will take a while to rehab both of his knees.

RB has always been a young man's position. Outside of a few exceptions most guys typically hit the wall at 30 or 31.

Remember we Anthony Alridge to put in the mix to he's fast. (hopefully they can fix his fumble problem)

Re: Chester Taylor anyone?

Anyone who in this day and age has the name Chester is okay in my book. Cool name if you ask me. Seriously, I have always liked this guy and the way he plays I would not mind seeing him in DC at all.
