No I already knew about Fargas, it's someone else who I still haven't figured out yet.

Re: Mega-Merge: 2010 Free Agency Rumors and Reports Thread
Tony Pashos is a fringe starting RT, Hicks is a fringe NFL player.
Pashos is a good signing if we draft a LT early, and fail to address the line again until late in the draft, we'll be alright with him and Heyer on the right side. In general, no idea what the line rebuilding plan is. We're not targeting guys with zone blocking experience, and we've brought in a lot of guys. I'm sure Shanahan has a plan, I just hope it's better than, "sign some guys, get lucky". Hicks has spent his whole career playing for Reid/Childress, and their zone blocking schemes more closely resemble Zorn's than Shanahan's. Not that it's a huge difference.

The biggest difference is the reliance on the cut blocking in the Shanahan scheme to create huge cutback lanes. You don't really see the long cutbacks in other variations of the zone blocking scheme. It's still zone blocking, you're still blocking an area instead of a man, but every play in Shanahan scheme (and Kubiak as well), the backside end is under immense pressure to play the cutback. Doesn't seem like it would be a major difference for a guard as opposed to the tackle, but I've heard otherwise.

Re: Mega-Merge: 2010 Free Agency Rumors and Reports Thread
I'm kind of surprised RB Mike Bell hasn't been mentioned at all.
Wasn't he a Shanahan pick? And he ran kind of well for the Saints this season... I think I'd rather him over a 30-yr old back like Tomilinson, Parker, etc. ... he'd be rather cheap and already know the system. But again... Shanny must not have been to impressed with him Denver... haven't heard of any interest from the Skins.

Plus Pashos can play tackle and Hicks is a OG/LT. For whatever reason I think Pashos was a LT also so we have some options now. The only people who are not zone blockers are the LB Foote we are looking to talk to and Willie Parker. So basically we are bringing in zone blocking OL. At a reasonable price I might add vs. throwing money away like we have for the whole time Snyder has owned the team. |

It's possible we're already doing that and I'm just oblivious, but I'm just seeing guys who have struggled to hold on to a starting job the last few years traipsing through here, and I'm skeptical. That's all. When you see "3-year deal", and it being offered to a backup-quality lineman, you do have to wonder what the greater plan is. Usually with bargain-basement types, shorter contracts are in vogue.

Re: Mega-Merge: 2010 Free Agency Rumors and Reports Thread
My hope is to trade down from the #4 spot for multiple picks in order to pick up some of those mid to late rounders. I keep holding out hope that this is the plan. I want more good draftees, and not one high priced one at #4. I think Allenhan-ShanAllen can do it.

Particularly good point. Didn't even think of that.
