Re: Give Colt Brennan a shot with the 1st team offense in 2010

if i'm not mistaken, arent we having some sort of camp BEFORE the draft? If Brennan and Campbell do well there, I think there's a very good chance Shanahan will shift his focus away from Bradford. It certainly would be ideal if Campbell or Brennan could win Shanahan's confidence before the draft. Picking up Okung in the first, Charles Brown in the 2nd, and a C/G/RB in the 4th sure would be nice.

Do we know yet whether we have any comp picks in the draft?

Yep, starting two weeks from today on March 15.

Are you talking Brown out of USC?

yeah, do you not think he's worth taking with our 2nd round pick? i havent read how he did at the combine.

Regarding our QB situation, so much focus is being placed on who our starting QB will be, we also need to think about our backup situation. I don't see Todd sticking around so if Brennan doesn't impress, we could be looking at 3 new QBs on the roster.

I'll bet that we hang on to JC. But if we do not, you could be right.

the only way i want us to hang on to JC is if shanahan will commit to him for atleast 2 years (unless his play just totally drops off, of course). IMO its simply not worth it to keep him for another year while we groom a rookie and then let him walk away for nothing when his contract expires after the 2010 season. Right now, Bradford is the only QB that could be available to us in the draft or free agency that even has the potential to be a significant upgrade over Campbell here.

I agree all around.

Maybe if we come home from the draft without Bradford, the FO will get going on an extension for JC.

i think that, unless the team is already 100% convinced that Campbell can't get it done, he won't be traded until the draft. If Bradford is on the board, we'll draft him and unload Campbell. If he's not, then we'll keep Campbell, draft Okung at 4, another OT in the 2nd, Hardesty in the 4th, and see how the offense looks in 2010. If it clicks, Campbell will get a REAL extension during or after the season. All things considered, our offense should be dramatically better in 2010 (when compared to 2009) in the second scenario. even moreso if we can trade some guys and pick up some additional picks in rounds 3 and 4. this is a very very deep draft.

so sign him to a 2 year contract now? or tender/hold on then sign for 1 more year?

I don't see that happening

Sam Bradford might be a solid qb in the league one day but if you really do think he is a upgrade over Campbell you are dead wrong!!No college qb is a upgrade over Campbell!!!JC will prove his doubters wrong again!! G ive the man a freakin line and a healthy run game!!Not to mention another big play reciever

Shanahan will be holding a Pre-Draft Minicamp, Offseason workouts, and another minicamp, and OTAs.

A new coach can have 2 additional minicamps....Zorn didnt add any....Shanny did
