Now on the making 10 times more in the NFL. Have you seen NBA contracts? There are role players making 10 million a year. There are guys who barely leave the bench who make 5. His longevity is impressive but typically an NBA career is much longer than an NFL career.

You're talking about the guys like Tayshaun Prince, who have a solid overall game and are usually in their teams starting 5. Peppers rookie contract was 7 years with a minimum value of $50 million dollars. He likely earned the $62 million max with that contract not to mention the 18 million he made last year with the franchise tag and pro bowl bonus.

Unless he became a starter then Peppers would most likely have been making one or two million a year and been out of the league within 5 years. Sure maybe he could have gotten up to $5 million but for how long? Also keep in mind that you're talking about a league that doesn't take very kindly to power forwards uner 6'8. Elton Brand is the only guy I can think of that made it as a short power forward. In the NBA height is extremely important.

The real point is that it takes a special athlete to compete at a high level in two sports. Deion Sanders, arguably the best cover corner to play in the NFL, wasn't the best pro baseball player (.263 career average) but he was a special athlete. Bo was a shooting star. I'd loved to have seen him have a full career. And for Peppers to play and start at UNC, a top-5 collegiate basketball program in the USA is special and he has the talent and ability to make the transition to cover as a LB.

Can't argue with that. I mean heck it's hard enough to play football and make the basketball team in high school let alone doing it at a school like UNC.
