Re: Samari or Freddy?
the aricle said what Rolle might want in a 15mil bonus who knows if that what we are offering, and Lets not forget how Williams makes player better. Rolle's asking price may go down if he know's that Williams will make him better

Re: Samari or Freddy?
Rolle is a top 10 corner, sorry guys but Smoot isn't quite there yet. More like top 15.
If Smoot and Rolle are both looking for the same money, Rolle is the better player therefore the better value. Don't forget Williams coached Rolle and probably feels he's a better fit in his defense. That's the only thing that's making me feel ok about this deal. If Williams wants Rolle and we have to let Smoot walk, I'm ok with that if that's what Coach Williams wants. Nobody can question his ability to put together a top notch defense. |

Re: Samari or Freddy?
Rolle is 28 and Smoot is 26, so let's stop with the silly older player comments, it's not like Rolle is 38, that would be a concern. 2 years is not a concern in the grand scheme of things.

Matty - I feel sending the leader of your defense packing rarely results in a good outcome.

Re: Samari or Freddy?
Daseal nailed it on the head. Sending off your leader on defense will never EVER result in a good outcome. Rolle will demand at least 12 mill in a signing bonus thats a minimum. If Smoot goes we really have no true solid leader on defense. LaVar can't do it we have seen it before and he has failed. Then you have Pierce who did a wonderful job and he may not be here. Then it goes to a player who has only been with the team for 1 year Springs. This would be his first time carrying a team I do not know if he can do it or not. I have said it before and will keep saying it. Danny boy can't keep doing this. We keep giving money that honestly I don't know where it comes from. We are already on a sinking ship with all of our contracts and money we have to shell out. And yet we keep throwing it out like it doesn't even matter. At least I would repsect giving a player who has been here his whole career the money and some FA. MAN I JUST LOVE THE REDSKINS OFFSEASONS, FILLED WITH SUCH EXCITEMENT!!!

I concur Matty, I believe William's likes Smoot, but for the same money likes Rolle a lot more, Daesel makes a good point about getting rid of a leader on defense, but a true leader lead's with his action's, besides that's what Gibb's is for, I have alway's felt verbal leader's are way overated, but I do understand his sentiment for Smoot as I have as well, but $10mil for Smoot is a very, very nice offer, we can't pay him like an elite CB because he is not. Rolle on the other hand is and elite CB. Perhap's this is being done to persuade Smoot to sign who know's, but if Smoot want's to make this about money after turning down a $10mil signing bonus, then we are showing no disloyalty by looking for the best bang for the buck. |

Re: Samari or Freddy?
where did lavar fail go to "return of lavar" read the epic battle of lavar and his values. its a long thread but full of oposition. I was on the side of lavar and don't understand why everyone feels we do not need him any more. I don't want to open up a can of worms but why is about half of us not on his side. He got hurt and we were better a year, on the other thread some said we were better because we didn't have him. Many didn't go that far but most were against him in some way. i don't know where he failed or where everyone felt that he wasn't a team leader.
Springs is a leader regardless of his time. T.O is a leader w/ 1 year i would say. Springs does the monday night show on comcast and he was devoted to the fans does this make him a leader, Griffin is also a leader you failed to mention but he has been here for a year too. Also how do you know who is the leader, what makes you feel that arrington is not the leader? if there is a reason i am willing to listen but i don't know where "he has failed"

Players understand the business side of things, and I think it was Pierce who said that the guys on defense are used to the constant changes. I love Smoot and the way he plays with such heart, but should we pay him top 5 corner type of money just for the sake of holding on to a 'leader'? |

Re: Samari or Freddy?
I wouldn't say for the sake of a "leader" but I would say for the sake of someone who we KNOW what we are getting. There's no guarantee that Rolle would pan out.
