Re: Redskins Sign Larry Johnson
I hope we draft a back. Larry probably still has some juice in the tank, but we should have maybe waited to see if a younger FA RB would have been available.

Re: Redskins Sign Larry Johnson
I doubt Portis is going anywhere. Why sign two FA running backs if you are going to draft someone? I mean Larry is a monster when he is on top of his game, but he is a short termer for sure. I only wonder if he is only going to be used for short yardage situations or is he actually going to split carries with Clinton. I guess it all comes down to what their plans are for Portis. I was hoping they would draft a kid and groom him to eventually take over for Portis. But you are right they could sign another FA if need be. Was Portis the only RB spared from the cuts?

Re: Redskins Sign Larry Johnson
That's a lot of ink on that backfield!!
I didn't know LJ's father played for the Redskins back in 1974. I remember after he signed with Cincy last year (after being cut by KC) he was interviewed by Dan Patrick on his show and I was very impressed with him, he was very articulate and seemed very bright. Hard to believe after all the shit he pulled in KC. Maybe he has matured and will surprise us fans.

Um no. He got cut because when the shit got bad in KC and the losses piled up he ripped his coach on his twitter page. I actually found it funny that Haley has never played football at any level ever. But keep that crap to yourself. Disrespecting your coach on your twitter page is anything but mature. |

The Redskins have signed free agent running back Larry Johnson, the team announced on Friday. Johnson, 6-1 and 230 pounds, is a big, bruising back who has compiled 6,219 rushing yards and 55 touchdowns in eight seasons spent mostly with the Kansas City Chiefs. Along the way, he earned two Pro Bowl berths and 2006 All-Pro accolades. Johnson joins Clinton Portis, another two-time Pro Bowler, in the Redskins’ backfield. Johnson, who grew up in Pomfret, Md., called the signing a "dream come true." "Being from the Maryland area, [I] grew up watching the Redskins," Johnson said during a brief interview at Redskins Park on Friday. "That’s what was on the TV, the Redskins and Cowboys...There’s just so much history. I used to go to their camps--Gary Clark, Art Monk, all of those guys were there. "It’s great to be in a city with all my family and friends and everybody I basically went to high school and college with that’s still down here. So it’s fun." Added head coach Mike Shanahan: "We are excited to bring in a running back that has had so much success in this league. Larry is a physical runner who will be a great addition to our backfield." Johnson, 30, played seven-and-a-half seasons with the Chiefs before he was released midseason last year. He joined the Cincinnati Bengals to close out the season. In addition to his career rushing yards and touchdowns, Johnson has a 4.4 yards-per-carry average for his career. As a receiver out of the backfield, he has caught 154 passes for 1,373 yards and six touchdowns. Johnson has not been without some off-the-field issues in his career, but it’s hoped that he has put those incidents behind him as he returns to Washington. Johnson entered the NFL as a first-round draft pick (27th overall) by the Chiefs in 2003. He played college football at Penn State. Johnson had his two best NFL seasons in 2005-06, when he became just the third running back in NFL history to produce 1,750+ rushing yards in consecutive years. Johnson owns the top two single-season rushing totals in Chiefs franchise history with 1,789 rushing yards in 2006 and 1,750 in 2005. His 1,789 rushing yards were a career high and his 416 rushing attempts that year marked an NFL single-season record. In addition, Johnson has three of the top five single-game rushing marks in Chiefs history, including a 211-yard rushing performance at Houston on Nov. 20, 2005. In 2005, Johnson rushed for 1,750 on 336 carries (5.2 yards-per-carry average) despite starting just nine games for the Chiefs. Johnson’s father, Larry Johnson, Sr., played for the Redskins in 1974. He would later become head coach at T.C. Williams High School in Alexandria, Va., and then move on to become an assistant coach at Penn State. He currently is defensive line coach for the Nittany Lions.

Re: Redskins Sign Larry Johnson
Both of these backs in a split role could be a very good duo imo, lets see how it plays out.

Re: Redskins Sign Larry Johnson
If this was 3 -4 years ago the I'd be all for it. But he's older and a locker room nightmare. Our new RB coach is going to be miserable coaching CP and Larry Johnson. Could you imagine coming to work everyday and having to deal with these two malcontents??? lol.

Re: Redskins Sign Larry Johnson
We have a coach and GM that have a plan for the future of the organization. We as fan need to sit back and let them make the decisions to get our roster ready for 2010 season. I trust that they know more about football than 99% of us on here. LJ signing is a low risk high reward signing due to his incentive type contract. If T. Owens can become a model football player than why not LJ. I think he just really wanted out of KC so he became a distraction. He from the DC area and he has alot to prove this year. I say lets wait and see how this plays out before we make a determination. We just dont have enough picks to draft a RB this year so we needed a veteran to back up Portis if he gets a season ending injury. LJ is the big brusing back we need to wear down defenses in the NFC East. I hope LJ gets off this season. 2 good backs are a must now.
