Sounds like some reasonable explanations to me, he bulked up too much citing how scouts were drooling over Greg Jones last year, he may have overtrained, etc.

This explains everything...basically he had bad advisers up until at least January of this year. As an UFA he is a beast of a player. That being said UFAs basically suck for the most part so being a beast among them means you might be a serviceable player at some point in your career. If his attitude shapes up and he is able to get his bulk under control and someone convinces him he shouldn't be allowed to make any decisions greater than what he has for dinner then he may be a quality UFA. I wouldn't waste a draft pick on him.
