I follow soccer quite a bit, and as SS mentioned this has little impact on England's chances of winning. The only real impact is his star power.

England's squad has a ton of talent in the midfield, and not having Becks is probably easier for their coach, Capello, to create the optimal lineup. Think of it like having an aging Jordan on your basketball team. It may actually hurt the performance of the team and the growth of younger players but you are forced to give him playing time because he is Jordan.
