your right, i read both articles, made my comment. read your comment, re-read both articles and they do say pretty much the same thing. the titles of the article show a contrast. espn title: he wants to be in the mix. PFT article: he wants to start. when i clicked on the PFT article the first time i expected him to say he wants to start for the skins. clicking on the espn article he says he definetly thinks he can be a starter again.

i would say PFT did dangle a misleading cliff-hanging title there, but i was wrong.

Good catch. Here was his actual entire quote:

"Yeah, that's my goal," Grossman said. "I wanna start in this league at some point and get back there and play. Every quarterback that plays in the NFL wants to start, so that's kind of an odd question, I guess. But I definitely think I can and I've got a lot of confidence in myself, and hopefully this is a stepping-stone to the second half of my career."

Unless Grossman has lost all confidence in himself, why wouldn't he think he has a chance to start? He has accomplished a hell of a lot more than JC.

I think the most important part of the article was that he said the coaches have not made any promises to him.

Re: Redskins Sign Grossman

Honestly, it wouldnt surprise me if Grossman ends up starting. I simply can't see Shanahan starting a rookie and I'm not sure Campbell could beat out Grossman for the starting job. If both were learning a brand new system, he probably could. However, Grossman's got experience in the system and is probably somewhat favored our QB coach and offensive coordinator.

Campbell may very well wind up being our day 1 starter, but i dont think we can assume that he will. I definitely see an open competition, atleast during the early stages of camp. hopefully, we'll have definatively named our starter before the preseason begins.

Isn't that what he did with Cutler, albeit in midseason?

Yes but different situation. He wasn't in his first year in Denver when he did this, I think he was at the Bill Belichick "I'll do whatever the hell I want" stage.
