More like Plummer basically "earned" his benching. Maybe Plummer ticked off Shanny one too many times, was simply ineffective, or both.

If both were learning a brand new system, he probably could. However, Grossman's got experience in the system and is probably somewhat favored our QB coach and offensive coordinator.

Campbell may very well wind up being our day 1 starter, but i dont think we can assume that he will. I definitely see an open competition, atleast during the early stages of camp. hopefully, we'll have definatively named our starter before the preseason begins.
I'm all for competition but don't you think if they thought Grossman was going to be the starter they would sign him to a longer contract (1year).

You can renew at any time. 1 year means that they don't expect it, but aren't opposed to it. Campbell only has a year left as well if you look at it that way.

Very true but in regards to Grossman if they expected him to be #1 you wouldn't hesitate you would just DO IT! he's here to teach & God forbid injuries.

Re: Redskins Sign Grossman

I honestly don't see Grossman giving JC a serious run for his money, unless Grossman has seriously cleaned up his decision making. He takes way too many dumb risks.

JC has the better arm, is more accurate, and is also the better athletic fit for the bootlegs and roll-outs Shanahan likes to run.

Should he be given the chance to compete for the starting job? Sure why not? I just doubt he would win out.

Very possible. At the very least, Grossman's about the most serious competition for a starting job that Campbell's ever had to deal with. I beleive competition makes people better, so hopefully it will help Campbell improve his game (assuming he's still here, that is).

There's no way Grossman will seriously compete for the starting job. I'll go a step further, the only way Campbell isn't the starter when the season begins is if he's not on the roster.

Re: Redskins Sign Grossman

if we draft Bradford or Clausen, i'll be declaring them a bust if they DON'T surplant Campbell by mid-season.

(Actually, to be entirely honest, if we draft Braford or Clausen, i'll be declaring them a bust the first time they take a sack or throw an interception in training camp. However, the first time i'll truly believe they are a bust, is if they arent starting by mid-season).

Re: Redskins Sign Grossman

Colt's happy as well

Colt Brennan Sees Potential In A Familiar Situation

With that in mind, Brennan has thrown himself fully into the team's offseason conditioning program, where he hopes to impress the new coaches. And he, in turn, has certainly been impressed by them, not least offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan. "Right now he's coaching every single one of us as if it was an even playing field," Brennan says, "and that's really all you can ask for at this level. It really is exciting for, I think, everybody right now: from Bartel, to me, Grossman, even to J-Campbell, I think we're all excited about the opportunity in front of us."

Re: Redskins Sign Grossman

Okay... this is news to me. Avoid the internet a few days and THIS is what i run into... Okay, I'm a fan of the Shan man. I've always thought he had a great eye for talent and i seriously expect great things in the near future... but Grossman!? Don't get me wrong. I thought Gibbs was crazy with some of his moves and the ones he had the most say in always seemed to pan out so i learned in the past to take the wait and see aproach and not throw my arms up in disgust at every 'odd' decision... but Grossman!?!? The man only played one 'good' season in which even the biggest Rex fan would have to admit he didn't get them there, their DEFENSE did. There were many games where his defense and special teams combined for more yards than his offense, and on Superbowl Sunday, when he needed to show up the most, he was pathetic. Since then, he hasn't been able to reclaim his #1 spot and i seriously don't want him to claim it here! His best year doesn't compare to Jason Campbell's best. He can barely get over 50% of his passes completed. Most of all, he's thrown more interceptions than touchdowns! Now call me old fashioned, but each position, to me, has a category that's more important to the rest when it comes to winning. For a receiver, it's clutch catching and drops. For a runningback, it's YPC and fumbles. For a QB it's TD vs INT. As basic as it gets, every TD is a chance to win and every INT is a chance for the other team to win. Straight up and down and simple. Everything was looking up to me... but this Grossman deal seriously makes me begin to doubt the Shanahans.

Now as a back-up... i guess he's a giant leap up from Todd Collins... As long as he's not the #1 guy, i'll try to keep the barfing to a minimum... pass the pepto

I have an irrational man crush on Rex Grossman. Yes, he sucks, but I'm happy we signed him anyway.

Why? If he sucks, why are you happy we signed him?
