Give it up for scholars from Al-Andalus...no one did it bigger and better in saving the west from the dark ages. Cordoba, Granada, Seville, Toledo oh my.

Are you implying you can't have fun studying?

See good things don't come out of Texas: Bogus changes to history books, Jerry Jones, the Dallas Cowboys, etc., etc. LOL.

Re: Texas wants to rewrite the US History books

The thing is, we can argue about history, who did this, who did that, etc all that we want.

Does any of that make us any more right? Does it mean that any one group was more right than another? Does it mean that the issues that we have today were solved then?

Nope... not sure what people 1000 years ago have to do with this.. if anything it's more proof that it hasn't been solved and there are more questions than answers.

On a personal note, with religion in mind, with no new answers in thousands of years I'm not sure what's left to go on.

It is a bit troublesome when government starts to define history. Just leave it to the academics I say

Sorry, the concept that christianity today is in the same state it was in the year 1010 is simply wrong.

What? Are supposed to pop out a new savior every few years?

"SEE THE REINCARNATION PART MCCCV"
THERE'S A NEW SAVIOR IN TOWN AND THIS TIME HE'S GOT ALL THE ANSWERS - INCLUDING THE FINE PRINT.

Yeah, to be clear, no hate towards the believers on the board. Personally, I have some disdain for the large role that religion has played and continues to play in our society, as I see it as a divisive force that can never be definitively ended as everyone clings to their belief system. That disdain sometimes comes out a little too clearly in my views... apologies if any were offended.

Re: Texas wants to rewrite the US History books

wow, yall still at it? Joe Redskin, I wanted to say you win, the Saxons were
Christians before 1066. Although that still does not prove that some monks in Ireland saved a book and therefore saved civilization or something like that? Anyway, your insults are not insults I am not emotionally invested in this discussion. Parting nod

In 616 Æthelbert of Kent died. The kingdom of Kent and the associated Anglo-Saxon kingdoms which Kent had had influence over relapsed into heathenism for several decades.
