Do you know when monastaries were established in modern day england? Ever heard of Lindesfarne (without googling it)? The Saxons were Christians well before the Normans landed.

I reach for nothing, my initial premise was simply that christianity played a significant role in preserving ancient knowledge and promoting scholarship. has organized religion also (both muslim and christianity) been used in the destruction of the same? Yup.

To assert that Christianity or that people working to further their christian beliefs has not created great benefits throughout the last 1000 years is to ignore history. I believe this was my point earlier. I fully accept that both on an individual and corporate basis, religion has been used as a destructive force in this world - I just believe that, on the whole over the last 1000 years, Christianity has brought more good than evil into the world.
