Last time I checked you can't trade UFAs. If we had paid him above market value(like we paid Portis even though there was another year left in his deal...) he would have been happy all the way to the bank. No, in reality we traded Champ Bailey and a 2nd round pick for Portis. |

Of course. But he has been one of my favorite Redskins for a long, long time.
I like what he represented. I like the fact that his salary was low. I like his ability to catch passes, and even return kicks. In a decade consisting mostly of pain, he was extremely easy to cheer for. |

I can't argue with that. He was underutilized and was pretty effective when he was given the chance to start. |

I was praying that we would have traded Portis away years ago, after Betts lit it up for 1,100 in half a season. Not a popular suggestion at the time, but I still feel that it could have set us up big. Portis for a Boldin or a lineman? I would have given anything for that. |

Welcome to The Warpath McD5. On the subject of Champ Bailey, if I remember right, SmootSmack or someone has mentioned before that Champ wanted out of town. Something to do with a woman.

And yes, the rumor was that he had an affair, and his wife insisted on leaving Washington. If he stayed, she was leaving him. We still got raped, trading a ten time pro-bowler for a one time pro-bowler. And the second rounder on top of it--although it didn't amount to much for Denver, was insult to injury. |

It hasn't for a decade now. I just wish that our coaches would have understood that, and would have pulled off a mini Herschel Walker type of trade with Portis years ago. Chris Johnson runs for 2,000. Who cares? How did his team do in the playoffs? Maurice Jones-Drew? He is great. It still didn't translate to playoffs. How far did LJ take Kansas City all of those 300 carry years? Betts, had he stayed healthy, was more than sufficient in my humble opinion. Anyway, my gf is going crazy about me being on the Redskins site this late at night. LOL. I look forward to talking with all of you over the coming days. This is a great site you have here. Have a great night everyone. |

You can't attribute these backs to a team loss. Playoffs or not. Step back from that u know better.... there are 30 examples of backs who did well in season n then did great in the playoffs. ..

And a few months ago, when CP was getting into it with Lavar, he suggested that some guys (Lavar, Bailey, Coles), would have wanted out of town anyway because when CP came in he was the new top-paid guy. Looking back over it all, we lost a 10 time pro bowler, to somebody who has been solid, but not elite. Those were the kind of trades that we were known from in the Vinny era. Hopefully now that kind of stuff is a thing of the past...

Never had heard that about Champ, but if that's true it makes me even madder that we traded him in that lopsided deal. (We could've paid some kind of settlement to his wife rather than give up a 2nd!) He's still a quality starter, though his age shows at times. |
