i know around bmore we get algea blooms from the unnaturally high levels of nitrogen (?) that get dumped into the water from industrial plants. book july-august for another fish kill bloom in the inner harbor.

i know the strippers are harder and harder to find up where i am, with their seasonal runs now being effected by changing water tempetures.

i know oysters used to be plentiful in the bay but now they only survive on federally funded sanctuaries.

MD is also looking to use fed money to create soft shell crab sanctuaries.

it just seems MD has been a bunch of talk and no action until we got this influx of fed money the past year or so.

i think the state does a poor job now b/c states and cities (like maryland and baltimore) have very tight budgets. if baltimore is cutting police and firefighters, you best believe money for environmental efforts isnt going to be handed out.

states have too much on their plate and all they do is juggle a budget. i would like the fed gov't to step in and help the states with finances to achieve goals like cleaning up the bay.

But they did such a good job protecting us from Allied Chemical and Dupont. Sure, let the Fed and State work out a good fat contract with some environmental group or chemical manufacturer. That's all that's important at the end of the day, the bottom line. Just ask Al Gore. He has your best interest at heart, second only to the planet's.

FD Kepone in the Bay might not be an issue. On the James it still is. It's in the river bottom. People still get sick. Anyone who eats fish out of the James is asking to be hospitalized. That's the government at work.

I fish and know plenty of people who fish in the James and I have never heard of anyone having an illness from Kepone. I had not even heard Kepone talked about in years until this thread. What was done environmentaly back in the 60's and 70's would land people in jail today so you really cannot compare the two.

I'm sure Mr.Haney would recommend eating fish out the James, as would Arnold the Pig. Many people have gotten ill from eating those fish. I know some of them.

Oh, but I can and I will compare the two. Did anyone go to jail over 9-11? No, case in point. Incompetence and corruption are prerequisites for government jobs.
