McNabb a REDSKIN!

Why this trade isn't being met with the skepticism of bringing in an older declining vet, like early Snyder moves, is beyond my understanding. Was McNabb very good or excellent in his prime, yes, I know I hated watching him beat up on us in the early 2000's. But that's not the McNabb we are getting, and we gave up too much to get him. Again, the Warpath poll was 3 to 1 against bringing him here. Where are all the people who talk about the Eagles getting rid of a guy a year early, and how wise that is. Well we just received the guy they got rid of, and in a year (even assuming McNabb signs an extension which we have no obvious guarantee) we will be back with no QB, or a 35 yo with declining ability and one less pick, and no young qb to groom (like McCoy or Tebow reasonably could have been).

Players like this don't hit the market every year. Unless this trend continues, in which case, I need to re-think my cliches.

I mean they had their reasons.. Kolb wasn't going to extend without becoming the starter, Philly's FO is really riding on this decision here

Well said. All of what you've said is perfectly valid.

I suspect that many who were against McNabb at the outset have no choice but to accept what's happened because we're Redskins fans and Donovan McNabb is now a Redskin.

We have to deal with less picks in the draft than just about every team every single year. I'm sick of that, and it's not something I expected with Shanahan and Allen. Clearly, they aren't following the 'rebuild and suck it up for a year or two' rule. They are all in to win right now.

I don't like the draft situation, but I'm betting they'll do all they can to trade down and pick up more as they go along.

Frank Herzog has to un-retire for this, right? There's no way he sits out the Bizarro season that's coming up. There's plenty of precedent for coming back to the booth.

Or maybe it's just me. 3-4 defense, Donovan McNabb at QB, Mike Shanahan at the helm, and no Frank Herzog. I now feel like everybody who didn't vote for Obama: too much change, too fast.

By trading for McNabb, Shanahan is acting as if the Redskins are prepared to win now. You don't pay an aging quarterback $11.2 million in 2010 to be a stopgap player. To me, this smacks of the old Dan Snyder way of doing business. McNabb is a blockbuster name like, say, Deion Sanders or Bruce Smith. It sounds like another expensive shortcut, albeit a highly-intriguing one.
But let's not forget McNabb finished his 2009 campaign by playing miserably in back-to-back losses to the Cowboys....
Again, the good news for Eagles fans is that McNabb isn't exactly inheriting the Fun Bunch. Santana Moss still has breakaway speed, but he needs time to get open. And let's not act like McNabb is the same guy who once kept a play alive for 14 seconds on "Monday Night Football" against the Cowboys. In Philadelphia, McNabb played the majority of his career with offensive tackles Tra Thomas and Jon Runyan. He'll likely be breaking in a rookie on his blindside in 2010 and the pedestrian Stephon Heyer will man the right side.

If he lasts here 3 years we're well off. It's not crazy to think that he might, barring injury there's not much of a reason. There are plenty of people who don't think that we should get Bradford or Clausen, regardless of Tackle availability.. this lets us delay that at the very least. What other QBs were on the block? Or do people think that Campbell was really going to flourish?

Well here's Clayton's take...

By acquiring Donovan McNabb for a second-round draft choice in 2010 and a third- or fourth-rounder in 2011, the Eagles may have given Redskins owner Daniel Snyder the short-term tool to move ahead of the Eagles in the NFC East race. In a quarterback-driven league, the Redskins should be able to finally score enough points to not just be a wild-card playoff contender, but to be a division winner.

Not that I agree with him completely, but I think Clayton knows a bit more about Mosley.
