Yep, all about making money; not victories.

Re: McNabb a Redskin! (Part II)

I'm looking at this trade and saying to myself "Is Donovan better than the QB's that are project to be second rounders right now" The obvious answer is yes, and I don't even see Clausen or Bradford coming close to being as good as McNabb will be for us this year.

Good trade, the more I think about it.

Re: McNabb a Redskin! (Part II)

First off, beast thread last night. Loved it!

Secondly, what's getting lost in the discussion, and not intentionally, is the fact that Redskins now have in McNabb a quarterback that's already acclimated to playing in the NFC East. From the inclement weather to the very hostile fans to being familiar with each team's defensive schemes. Of course the contrary is also true.

One of my knocks on JC was that he was very much a rhythm passer. If he started out with a few completions, he was on his way to having a pretty solid game. If you could disrupt him early, then the game had to be won elsewhere. Not so with McNabb; he has moxy. He could start a game with 3 interceptions and never look back. And I think more than anything else, that's what makes him a much different and superior quarterback than Jason Campbell. Campbell's stats tell you exactly how effective he's been. McNabb, on the other hand, has played some statistically bad games, yet has been able to carry his team to victory.

I really don't like giving up what little draft picks we have but McNabb is trade is done. I ask you all will McNabb make our WR better or do we need to up grade that as well with the OL?

No, our receivers suck. I think we should trade our 1st pick for Brandon Marshall. I mean, can we get a reciever of Marshall's talent in the 4th overall selection? NO! So, we should trade that pick away for Marshall right now. Then we'll be set everywhere except for Offensive Line and Linebacker. Thats not bad!

And just who the heck picks players on Thursday and Friday Night anyway? Kind of gay you know? We should draft everyone we're going to draft on the weekend. Thats the way its always been done and thats the way we should continue to do it.

Or maybe we had a QB that hung on to the ball all day and never had any real timing. See this is the NFL and WR's and QB's have a small window to throw into and we had a QB that missed most of those windows and either threw it away or took a sack.

Are you serious?! You want to give up our #4 pick when we have what? 4 total picks in the draft and the ONLY place we are not set is Offensive line and linebacker? That's a freaking huge place not to be set. I can see it now... Big Mike, Heyer and the over the hill gang get McNabb on IR week one and newly traded for Brandon Marshall has his diva moment take two when he doesn't get the ball and the Skins lose, ALOT. Makes perfect sense.

They should've hidden the fact that there are McNabb jerseys being made available. Maybe only sell 5 of them as an act of good measure.

Right?

Re: McNabb a Redskin! (Part II)

I think this addresses GTripps point about McNabbs decline pretty well.

NFL: The Philadelphia Eagles decided the time was right to trade Donovan McNabb - ESPN

Not really, the article addresses the business issues. The only things about McNabb's performance were the games against Dallas, his completion % (which I already showed was above career avg.), and passing yds (not surprising as McNabb missed two games). If you add 500 yds to his passing yd total for the year he winds up at 10th. Let's look at some other 2009 McNabb stats:

- TD % = 9th
- INT % = 8th
- QB rate = 12th
- Yds / Att = 7th
- Adjusted Net Yds / per ATT = 10th
- Yds / Game = 10th

This whole decline thing is BS, this was a business move and long term strategy move by the Iggles. Not considering McNabb's leadership and mobility which make him more valuable, we're getting a top 10 passing QB for a 2nd rounder and a mid-round pick in 2011. Good deal for the Skins.

I don't care what ridiculous geometric/triangulation/5th-week-of-the- season-away-on-astroturf metrics Football Outsiders or GTripp throws out here. McNabb led his team to the playoffs the last two years and was 11-5 last year. The Eagles lost to New Orleans (SB Champ), Chargers (AFC Championship game), and Dallas (playoff team who Eagles don't match up well against) and the Raiders (????) and were 5th in scoring with McNabb at QB.

Not sure if you watched the video or not Sammy.

If the Eagles did not think he was on the decline and had 4-5 years left they simply would extend his contract as he asked for and trade Kolb. In the same situation this year would the Colts trade Manning if they had Kolb? I don't think so. The last couple of years McNabb has been inconsistent and they know it.

Is McNabb the 2004 version, absolutely not. Is he still a top 10 QB, absolutely. The article mentioned the Eagles are in a youth movement, Kolb is young. McNabb's numbers are strong and he's a major upgrade from Campbell. There is no statistical indication McNabb's peerformance will decline in the near term (2-3 years).
